Responsibilities

Program/Department Overview

EDF’s Economics & Global Climate Cooperation (EGCC) team works to advance policies that make market forces work for - rather than against - the environment. We work closely with all of EDF’s programs to ensure our work is based on sound economics and policy design. Through research and analysis, we work to strengthen economics throughout EDF, publish in peer-reviewed journals, and interact with policymakers and other stakeholders to build support for economically sound environmental policies. We coordinate closely with strategic initiatives across EDF to ensure cohesive advocacy and communications at climate COPs and other international fora.

Overall Function

The Global Climate Intern will provide broad support to the Global Climate Cooperation sub-team across multiple projects and topics related to international climate advocacy and carbon markets. The Intern will gain insight into team’s overall strategy and impact by supporting research, analysis, coordination, and logistics. The Intern will have the opportunity to produce written outputs and contribute to our team’s effective participation in major international and multilateral events.

Key Responsibilities

Tasks may include but are not limited to:

  • Conduct research around carbon credits, carbon markets, climate finance, climate adaptation, loss & damage, and other topics as needed.
  • Assist in coordinating positions and issue areas within EDF and with external partners.
  • Assist in creating presentations, blogs, memos, fact sheets, and communications materials for both internal and external audiences.
  • Assist in virtual and in-person event preparation and logistics.
  • Assist in clerical and project management work, such as developing agendas, taking notes, scheduling meetings, tracking follow-up items, etc.
  • Provide ad hoc support to the team and respond to discrete tasks upon request.
  • Develop specific professional development goals and develop an actionable professional development plan for the duration of the internship.
  • Participate in advancing EDF diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) goals in which people from all backgrounds and experiences feel connected, included, and empowered to address the environmental and organizational challenges in alignment with EDF values.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated passion for addressing the climate crisis.
  • Currently enrolled in or a recent graduate of graduate-level program (economics, public policy, environmental science/studies, or related discipline preferred).
  • Interest in policy and advocacy, particularly climate change policy, economics, and the use of market-based solutions to environmental problems.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Flexibility and capability to tackle loosely-defined problems.
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects, prioritize, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently, navigate uncertainty, and proactively seek guidance when needed.
  • Ability to give and receive constructive feedback.
  • Demonstrate self-awareness, cultural competency and inclusivity, and ability to work with colleagues and stakeholders across diverse cultures and backgrounds.
  • Experience with MS Office applications, including Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with Microsoft Teams/SharePoint, Slack, Asana, Monday.com, or other collaborative software tools
