Responsibilities

Program/Department Overview

EDF is working to reduce air pollution and toxic chemicals that destabilize the climate and threaten health by partnering with communities, companies and governments to drive policies that improve our air and water quality, deliver safer products and incentivize innovations – so everyone can live healthier lives. The intern will work with the marketing communications team for the Global Clean Air Initiative in the Healthy Communities Mission Area at EDF.

Overall Function

The intern will support marketing and communications for EDF’s Global Clean Air Initiative, specifically through GCA’s primary communications channels (GlobalCleanAir.org and Twitter @EDFCleanAir). The intern will assist with media outreach tasks and research to ensure EDF’s GCA communications are reaching relevant audiences.

Key Responsibilities

Tasks will include but are not limited to:

  • Write content for social media, newsletters, blogs, collateral materials, reports and other materials as needed.
  • Audit GCA’s Twitter feed and analytics to inform best practices.
  • Conduct online research about potential audience segments across the world.
  • Update media lists to ensure outreach is up-to-date and reflective of the current media landscape.
  • Monitor traditional and non-traditional media outlets for coverage and opportunities.
  • Assist with basic photo editing, video review and collateral design.
  • Participate in advancing EDF Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) goals in which people from all backgrounds and experiences feel connected, included and empowered to address the environmental and organizational challenges in alignment with EDF values.

Qualifications

  • Enrolled in or a recent graduate of an undergraduate or graduate degree program in marketing, communications, journalism, environmental science, international affairs or development, or a related field.
  • Interest in or working knowledge of public policy, public health and advocacy, particularly air quality and climate change policy.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of social media and creative social media campaigns, especially on Twitter, LinkedIn and Instagram. Interest in Threads also appreciated.
  • Experience with basic website management (especially on WordPress) preferred.
  • Must be well-organized, self-motivated and detail-oriented.
  • Proficient in the use of standard office equipment and computer software (such as MS Office applications and Google Workspace).
  • Ability to stay organized, meet deadlines and maintain a proactive attitude.
  • Basic video and photo editing skills and desire to learn new software preferred.
  • Excellent research skills.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work in a team setting and have the ability to work independently when projects are due.
  • Demonstrate self-awareness, cultural competency and inclusivity and ability to work with colleagues and stakeholders across diverse cultures and backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated initiative and problem solving skills.

10 weeks, fall 2023 (September-December)

Hours

Part-time (15-20 hours/week), with the opportunity for full-time (35 hours per week)

Compensation

This internship would involve compensation for work paid at a rate competitive with leading non-profits at $17-20/hr.

Minimum Salary

USD $17.00/Hr.

Maximum Salary

USD $20.00/Hr.
