We are growing our team and are looking for a Financial Controller with previous work experience in a similar role supporting a growth-stage, public company with the strategic management of our finance department. This position will report to the COO, with some reporting to the CEO, however as we are a growing organization, the reporting structure may shift in the near future.

Our lead product, an onsite, containerized Green Ammonia production system that is modular and scalable, will revolutionize clean energy through a patent-pending, first-of-its-kind technology invented in Canada. The system takes air, water and a sustainable electricity source to produce green anhydrous ammonia with no carbon emissions. Adoption will dramatically support global targets to reduce CO2 emissions. And our decentralized, in situ approach will bring supply chain independence to our first customers – farmers – for the first time.

What YOU will do:
In this position you will work to support the long-term financial sustainability of the company and ensure financial practices and reporting are carried out in accordance with legislative requirements and company policies. You will be responsible for the daily operation of our finance department, which includes accounting, payroll, processing and recording pre-authorized debit and credit transactions, EFT payments and for ensuring remittances to the government are done on time and in an accurate manner (WSIB, CPP, etc.).
You will lead the annual budget process, and create, analyze, and present financial reports and risk analysis to the senior leadership team. As our subject matter expert, you will coordinate internal and external audit requests and serve as a point of contact during quarterly reviews and the interim and year-end audits.
You take pride in your leadership skills and will embrace the opportunity to lead, mentor, and coach the Finance Team Specialist. You are well versed in preparing financial statements and have successfully managed annual financial audits, including providing supporting documentation, reconciliations, and queries. While this position is focused within the Waterloo Region in Ontario, travel may be required, so you should be able to travel across Canada and to international locations as required.

You have a degree in Business Administration and hold the CPA designation in good standing. A progressive senior leader in finance, with a minimum of 5 years hands on experience as a Financial Controller in a global, publicly accountable organization compliant with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) or equivalent (IFRS is considered an asset). You are familiar with external financial reporting in accordance with IFRS and are committed to the maintenance of financial controls within our finance department. You are a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in all accounting functions, including financial and cost accounting.
You thrive on the analysis of complex financial information and can convey this information to others in an easy-to-understand format. As a strong people leader, you have exceptional leadership and communication skills, and you love leading, developing, and motivating others. You consider yourself an expert in QuickBooks and the application of Microsoft Office suite of products including Excel. You are an action-oriented critical thinker, attentive to detail who demonstrates the drive, business acumen, and interpersonal skills to deliver results within a growth-stage company.
