SUMMARY
Cuso International (Cuso) is an international organization that works to reduce poverty and inequality through the efforts of highly skilled volunteers, collaborative partnerships and compassionate donors. Funded by Global Affairs Canada (GAC), Cuso in collaboration with the Caribbean Biodiversity Fund (CBF) is implementing a 4-year project, CORE to build the capacity of National Conservation Trust Funds (NCTFs) operating in eight countries (Belize, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, Saint Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and Suriname) to implement local, nature-based solutions for climate change adaptation and mitigation with a gender-responsive lens. Reporting directly to the HoP, LAC the FO will handle the project’s administrative, logistical, accounting and financial systems in accordance with Cuso and GAC’s financial requirements in coordination with CORE’s Project Coordinator (PC).
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead the development of the CORE annual budget of CORE in coordination with the PC, including costing out activities, and ensure budget execution according to approved annual budgets and in compliance with Cuso and GAC’s finance policies and procedures.
- Produce monthly performance-to-budget reports and other financial reports as requested (e.g., quarterly, semi and annual reports).
- Support the PC to ensure all financial and administrative transactions relating to volunteers and project activities are processed effectively and in a timely manner, consistently with Cuso and GAC’s financial policies and procedures.
- Support the PC to maintain an orderly, accessible and confidential filing system (print and digital) of finance and general office documents.
- Be a key contact for volunteers and partners for all financial queries and issues.
- Monitor, verify and follow up on payments for authorized expenditures and facilitate payments during workshops/trainings or events.
- Manage and maintain an accurate inventory of fixed assets.
- Obtain quotations for budget purposes, as requested.
- Diligently operate and maintain accurate records of petty cash operations.
- Support the Finance Department in Cuso Canada office (CCO) in activities related to internal and external financial audits.
- Ensure proper accounting for external funding in accordance with donor conditions.
- Support the development of budgets for externally funded projects.
- Work with the respective project staff and colleagues, to take appropriate action to ensure volunteers’ safety at all times and especially in times of civil, military or natural disturbances, and to be an emergency contact for Jamaica volunteers when required.
- Undertake specific additional project support responsibilities from time to time (e.g. logistical support for in-country volunteers), as may be agreed upon with the Line Manager.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Essential:
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business administration or related field
- 3+ years of experience in finance, administration or office management, including familiarity with accounting systems (e.g., SUN Accounts, Accpac, etc.)
- Sound knowledge and practice in accounting
- Excellent English language skills in writing and speaking
- Excellent financial planning, budgeting and reporting skills
- Ability to understand and work with restricted and unrestricted funds concepts and with financial management policy frameworks
- Proficiency with Office Suite (Windows, Word, Power Point, Outlook) database, internet
- Experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures (or demonstrated ability to work with a diverse group of individuals)
- Efficient communication skills (verbal and written)
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to listen, be patient, diplomatic and maintain confidentiality
- Good organization, time management, planning and priority setting skills, and demonstrated initiative
- Sound judgment and effective problem-solving abilities
- Strong attention to details
- Strong experience in providing a customer focused service to internal and external clients
- Flexibility to adapt to new situations with a positive and professional attitude towards working within the organization’s standards
- Ability to work flexibly as part of a team to ensure the objectives of the program are achieved
- Willingness to travel occasionally in and out of the country
Desirable:
- Experience working in a non-governmental or not-for-profit organization.
- Experience working with volunteerism for development (V4D) organizations
