Field Guide Trainer

About the role:

Bushwise is an internationally recognised Field Guide Training Company that conducts high quality training across the African continent, that is also committed to training and developing its staff. Exciting and new expansion opportunities have opened up new positions within the company to grow the team. Specifically, new opportunities exist for passionate, professional and ethical FGASA Field Guides and Trainers to join us at Bushwise (www.bushwise.co.za).

This role broadly involves practical and theoretical training of long-term Field Guide students (local and international), up to FGASA Field Guide Level 2 and allows for fantastic advancement of the trainer’s own knowledge and skills. The role will suit pro-active, self-motivated and enthusiastic South African citizens who thrive in a diverse working environment and are fluent in English (written and spoken). Opportunities for promotion and programme development are available for experienced candidates who prove themselves within this dynamic and growing company.

Responsibilities:

  • Training learners in the form of classroom-based lectures/ tutorials, and applying the knowledge practically in the field – including game drives and walks
  • Ensuring strict health and safety protocol in the field and at campus
  • Student outings & logistics
  • Maintaining high training and programme standards
  • Assisting with social media marketing
  • General Administration & campus management
  • Online course development, support and presentations
  • Study support and mentoring students
  • Additional responsibilities dependent on experience and interest

Minimum qualifications required:

We are looking for the most qualified people possible, however this is the minimum required. Additional skills and experience will reflect in the salary package offered.

  • South African resident
  • FGASA Field Guide (preferably Professional Field guide)
  • FGASA Trails Guide (NQF4)
  • Valid ARH
  • SASSETA Proficiency
  • Valid Drivers licence and PrDP
  • Valid First Aid
  • DEAT Registered
  • Extensive 4x4 Driving experience
  • Extensive and recent experience in the guiding industry (minimum 5 years – luxury lodge-based guiding)
  • SAPS Competency
  • FGASA Assessor
  • FGASA Professional Field Guide qualification
  • FGASA Trails Guide Mentor
  • Previous training/teaching and management experience

Competencies:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal people skills as a strong example and mentor for students
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • Reliable with excellent organisational skills
  • Pro-active, self-motivated, and flexible
  • Ability to work independently, but a strong team player
  • Good computer skills
  • Fluent in English, both spoken and written

Included in Salary package:

Market related monthly salary, dependent on qualifications. In addition, salary will include the following: a medical aid contribution, contributions to industry related membership renewals and development training, accommodation, uniforms & meals whilst on duty.
