Event Facilitator - USAID/DDI/ Innovations

Overview of the Position

Social Solutions is seeking an Event Facilitator to work with the Innovation Division within the Bureau for Development, Democracy and Innovation.  The Facilitator is required to help lead an iterative process throughout the retreat timeframe.  This includes collaborating with the Innovation Division points of contact to more clearly scope the event, identify and confirm objectives, constraints, key deadlines/milestones, measures of success, and any deliverables and/or reports that will be required at the completion of the event or quickly thereafter.  The chosen consultant(s) will coordinate any pre-work required of the participants, then travel to the location of meetings in Washington, D.C., to provide facilitation and pre- and post- meeting support.  Consultant should plan to be available to ensure that participants are fully aware of the event objectives and complete any assignments (reading, thought work) prior to the event and be physically present in D.C. at least a full day prior and one day after the event. The length of the event is anticipated to be approximately 16 - 20 hours spread out across three working days.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive interviews and/or administer online surveys as needed to solicit input from USAID and other stakeholders to inform the design of the event.
• Lead a collaborative, iterative process to create a final event agenda that is participatory and focused on achieving the Innovation Division’s objectives.
• Work with USAID colleagues to create supporting materials, including slide presentations, handouts, and other materials as needed.
• Provide support to help prepare both participants and event speakers/session leaders and ensure the quality of their presentations, including providing speaker guidance, slide and handout templates, and other resources as required.
• Lead icebreaker or interactive teambuilding sessions to further group cohesion, allow new staff to be welcomed and become part of the team, and facilitate more interaction between the two teams (EPIC and DIV).
• Formulate activities that respond to different learning and interaction styles.
• Work with USAID and the logistics coordinator to ensure that the logistics of the event are properly arranged, including checking on the appropriateness of the venue and its set up, procurement and presence of facilitation materials (i.e. sticky notes, easel paper), and IT equipment is onsite, properly set up, and in good working order.
• Collaborate with USAID to ensure the timely and complete capture of the discussions that occur at the event.
• Provide a refreshed strategy incorporating consensus views, a roadmap for further work on goals, objectives, strategy, and implementation actions.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree is required and a minimum of ten (10) years of facilitation or related work experience is required.

Experience designing and facilitating events for USAID is preferred.  Overseas work in international development is also preferred.

Location: The retreat will take place in the Washington D.C. area
