JOB ANNOUNCEMENT:
Sacred Heart Community Service, located in San José, CA, is looking for a full time Program
Manager to lead one of the largest volunteer engagement programs in the Bay Area, while
creating opportunities for our members to get involved to change the conditions in their lives.

addressing poverty in Santa Clara County through a strategy that combines addressing the
consequences of poverty through impactful programs while building power with people to push
for systemic change.
POSITION SUMMARY:
SHCS seeks an energetic, personable, and mature leader who can develop and inspire a team
of staff, interns, and volunteers. The Essential Services division works daily with 50-100
community volunteers to assist upwards of 500 households. The Manager supervises and
supports the daily operations of the Food Pantry, Clothes Closet, and Donation Station, which
receive, process, and provide groceries, clothing, and other resources that meet basic needs for
tens of thousands of members each year. The ideal candidate is highly organized, possesses
strong interpersonal skills, is able to problem solve and handle difficult situations, understands
the nuances of crisis intervention, and has the ability to work flexibly and creatively. The
Essential Services Manager ensures that programs are implemented in a fair and equitable way,
and that all stakeholders are treated with dignity, compassion, and respect. The position
spearheads program planning, budgeting, data tracking and reporting, and supply chain
management. The Manager also supports organization wide events and campaigns, and acts
as a liaison with resource partners and funding entities.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

COVID-19 safety protocols are strictly followed by all staff and members, and vaccination is
required for all staff at Sacred Heart Community Service (SHCS). Remote work is not
available as this position will be primarily working with members on onsite events and
activities at the San José, CA warehouse location. Some weekends may also be required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

2-3 years of program management or supervisory experience.
Four-year degree or a minimum of 5 years of experience in social services, public health,
or a related field.

Bilingual and bi-literate preferred in English and one or more of the following languages:
Spanish, Vietnamese, or Mandarin
Ability to work with diverse people, communities, and cultures, with an understanding of
culturally competent and anti-racist practices.
Demonstrated experience in project management, including planning, training, and
tracking systems.

Experience in volunteer management.
Ability to multitask, provide quick responses, remain composed, and be highly organized
in unexpected situations.

Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills.

Available for flexible scheduling, including some weekends and evening hours.
Proficiency with databases (such as Salesforce), Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Google
Docs.

Flexibility and willingness to step in to support program operations as needed.
Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50 lbs.
The position requires you to stand and walk for prolonged periods.
The position also requires computer use for up to 2-4 hours per day.
Must successfully pass a DMV and criminal background check.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:
The position is full-time and exempt, and reports to the Essential Services Director.
COMPENSATION:
Salary is commensurate with experience within the range of $64,000 - $75,000. Excellent
