ABOUT THE POSITION

Environmental Inspector - Site Investigation & Remediation | Montpelier, VT | South Burlington, VT

VHB is seeking an Environmental Inspector for our growing Site Investigation & Remediation practice. This hire will be responsible for performing site investigations, building material sampling, managing field programs, and coordinating inspections with staff and our clients in Vermont.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with Certified Industrial Hygienists (CIHs) and Project Managers to assist clients with various services including potentially hazardous building material sampling (PCB, ACM, lead paint, and mold), indoor air quality assessments, material/chemical inventories, and wipe sampling
  • Leads site investigation and remediation studies
  • Manages and supports the preparation of sampling plans and compliance documents
  • Perform air sampling and building material inventories at institutional and commercial buildings
  • Communicates and reports project progress and challenges
  • Liaises with clients, developers, architects, engineers, and other professionals
  • Organizes work schedules and delegates tasks
  • Conducts quality assurance reviews of project deliverables
  • Interprets data, prepares and reviews project related reports
  • Attends meetings with clients, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders in support of project

Skills and Attributes

  • Work in field and office settings
  • Perform assessments during regular and to a lesser extent after hours depending on client schedules.
  • Ability to problem solve and work independently
  • Working experience with hazardous building materials, building systems, and HVAC
  • Familiarity with contaminant transport preferred for site investigation & remediation practice
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal environmental regulations, including EPA (TSCA), VT Department of Health, and DEC (IRule)
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Team-oriented with ability to perform multiple tasks independently in a timely manner and collaborate effectively and positively with coworkers
  • Self-motivated, highly organized, and detail oriented
  • The ability to lead a small team and complete multiple projects simultaneously
  • Fundamental knowledge of building construction, materials, and environmental processes

Qualifications

Required

  • High School diploma
  • 5-8 years of fieldwork experience required (minimum of 2 years of environmental consulting experience involving indoor building inspections)
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel)
  • Strong report writing, field coordination and task management skills
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of building systems
  • Valid drivers license

Preferred

  • OSHA 40 hr. HAZWOPER certification and annual refresher certifications
  • Associates or Bachelor’s in construction management, engineering, or other environmental science
  • Experience with Industrial Hygiene
