Engineering Technician - R & D Lab

🇺🇸 Waukesha, WI, US 📝 FULL-TIME

In this position, you will:

Work in the engineering lab, with direction from lab management and collaboration with engineers, to set up, configure gas engine systems in a test cell, including data acquisition and measurement equipment, and to perform complex development and validation tests. Responsibilities include test article preparation and mechanical assembly, use of engine ECU and calibration software, building wire harness systems, and metal fabrication techniques. The position involves supporting laboratory operations including creating process documentation, inventory/parts management, EHS and safety, and other tasks in support of the business and operations.

The R&D Lab operates full-scale Waukesha engine assets (400 to 5000+ HP), advanced data collection and emissions measurement technology, and a suite of infrastructure/tools to test the full operating envelope of our products and simulate actual customer conditions.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Working in a collaborative engineering test environment

  • Setting up and operate data acquisition and measurement equipment, exhaust emission measurement systems, and test instrumentation

  • Set-up, calibration, operation, and repair of instrumentation equipment (hardware and software

  • Plan and execute automated testing based on provided inputs/requirements

  • Perform complex performance and durability tests on laboratory engines, components, and systems

  • Analyze measurement data, document, and communicate test results and information

  • Disassembly, inspection, measurement and rebuilding of engine component parts and systems

  • Preparing test and measurement fixtures and assemblies

  • Fabricating and machine assemblies and components to requested requirements

  • Maintaining a clean and orderly work area

  • Ability to work in a team setting with a positive and professional attitude

  • Lifting a maximum of 40 lbs.

Qualifications/Requirements (Required)

  • Associate of Applied Science degree in engine systems, mechanical technology, or closely related field (High school diploma or GED plus an additional 4 years’ experience as a lab technician may be substituted for associate degree)
  • 3 years working in a lab technician role (electrical, computer and/or test cell)
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills
  • Organizational skills required to effectively handle and prioritize multiple tasks and perform detail-oriented work

Qualifications/Requirements (Desired)

  • Experience with gas engine test cell data acquisition systems including: AVL Puma, A&D

iTest TAS, FEV Morphee, etc.

  • Experience with ETAS INCA ECU calibration software tools
  • Experience with Indicating measurement system and i60 exhaust gas measurement system
  • Self-starter, quick learner, reliable, and punctual
  • Flexible in work assignments requiring minimal supervision
  • Hands-on experience with reciprocating engines, components, and technology
