BACKGROUND

INNIO Waukesha Gas Engines (Waukesha), a business unit of the INNIO Group, produces large, stationary reciprocating engines that drive gas compressors for all stages of natural gas production. Waukesha has over 50,000 units installed worldwide. Our engines are designed to run under high-stress conditions in isolated, mission-critical and demanding environments.

Waukesha has annual revenue of $300M, with approximately 40% from engine sales and 60% from parts and services. The business unit has 700 employees and is headquartered in Waukesha, WI (Greater Milwaukee). Waukesha has manufacturing facilities in Waukesha and Welland, Ontario. INNIO was created in 2018 when Advent International acquired GE’s Distributed Power business. The acquisition included two businesses, Waukesha and Jenbacher, that operate as separate entities under the INNIO umbrella.

OPPORTUNITIES AVAILABLE

Multiple internship roles are available. Each intern will be placed into one of the following Engineering roles:

  • Order Fulfillment internship: Develop understanding of customer and business requirements to define Critical to Quality aspects of new product, product improvement, and cost reduction projects
  • Applications Engineering internship: Great opportunity for someone with good mechanical and/or electrical technical skills who would enjoy working with both customers and suppliers. Tasks will be tailored to intern’s interest and background.
  • Controls internship: Develop and test controls hardware or software, according to the intern’s interest and background. A variety of tools and skill sets are applicable including MATLAB/Simulink, PLC code, sensor and actuator testbench, engine testing, simulation, and more.
  • Material Science: Prepare metallurgical samples for microscopic evaluation, support failure analysis, and perform analysis to determine material composition, microstructure, material properties, etc.
  • Performance Engineering: Measure and analyze engine performance, update engine simulation models, and assist in engine calibration.
  • Mechanical Design: Develop 3D CAD and 2D drawings of engine components using Creo. Validate designs in engineering lab through fitup, engine run, etc.
  • Other roles and opportunities may arise.
