Position Description:

Consultancy Assignment: KH-ENG Interpreter for Project Support
ChildFund Rugby is recruiting an interpreter who can support Rugby for Development project in Cambodia by Khmer-English and English-Khmer interpretations of operational meetings, communications with local partner, trainings of trainers, partner training observation sessions and other project events as required from now until 31 June 2024.

Context:

This consultancy supports Pass It Back, an innovative Sport for Development program led by ChildFund in partnership with Cambodia Federation of Rugby (CFR) that delivers an integrated life skills and rugby curriculum for children and young people in disadvantaged communities across Cambodia.

The program aims to provide children with structured sport and life skills learning opportunities in a safe, inclusive environment, that supports social and emotional learning and allows them to positively contribute to their communities.

Job Purpose and Reporting Structure:

The purpose of this Consultancy is to provide interpretation support services to ChildFund Rugby from Khmer to English and English to Khmer to ensure that:

o All participant understand concepts delivered during events.
o The events’ participants are able to effectively and openly communicate together.

The Consultant will report to the ChildFund Rugby Partnerships Coordinator and work closely with ChildFund Rugby Impact and Scaling Manager, Global Programs and Partnerships Manager, Asia Coordinator and CFR Rugby for Development Officers.

Key Areas of Responsibility (6-month cycle):

• Interpretation of Program Operational Monthly Meetings: Khmer-English interpretation of 1-hour meeting between ChildFund Rugby and Cambodia Federation of Rugby which typically occurs on the 2nd Monday of each month;
• Interpretation at Trainings of Trainers: Khmer-English interpretation of 2-day face-to-face trainings between ChildFund Rugby and Cambodia Federation of Rugby in late February;
• Interpretation of Partner Training Observation sessions: Khmer-English interpretation of online observation sessions of Finance Training and Safeguarding Training twice each month;
• Receive and apply on-going feedback on interpretation from the ChildFund Rugby Partnership Coordinator, in particular around technical terms, colloquialisms, and other key language aspects.Minimum Requirements and Competencies:

Note: Interpreter will be paid based on actual number of outputs delivered over the contract period.

Minimum Requirements and Competencies:

• At least 2 years providing interpretation services

• Ability to interpret to a high standard of accuracy, maintain fidelity with context, ensure technical language and nuances are retained, and use precise, clear and proper terminology as provided by ChildFund Rugby;

• Ability to deliver outputs on-time, accurately, and efficiently;

• Ability to ask for clarification or explanation when faced with challenges;

• Ability to receive and use feedback constructively;

• An understanding of the conventions of Australian English;

• Able to work in both inside and outside locations and outside normal working hours; and

In addition to providing project supports to partner, staffing support for CFR may come on-board in the coming months since all CFR staff are new to a professional sport working environment.
