About the Program:
The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) is a global body enabling businesses to set ambitious emissions reductions targets in line with the latest climate science. It is focused on accelerating companies across the world to halve emissions before 2030 and achieve net-zero emissions before 2050.
The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi):
The Technical Department leads the development and maintenance of the key resources within the initiative to enable the adoption of climate targets in line with the best-available science and following best-practice for standard-setting organizations.
The Sectoral Development team, a key pillar of the SBTi Technical Department, enables adoption and guides interpretation of SBTi corporate standards at the sector level. The team leads the origination and implementation of projects to translate SBTi standards into sector-specific standards, guidance and tools at the sectoral level.

Job Highlight: You will be an instrumental part of the Sectoral Development Team within the initiative. You will use your energy sector expertise to lead the development of standards, guidance, tools, and technical resources to enable the adoption of 1.5°C-aligned targets in the sector. You will be a project manager and lead projects, manage stakeholder processes, author publications, and respond to queries as the energy sector subject matter expert within the initiative.
You will be supported by a Project Management Officer and the broader SBTi Technical Team.
You will report to the Energy and Chemicals Sector Lead.
This position is fully remote.
What you will do:
Research & Knowledge (80% time)
Administrative (20% time)
What you will need:
Education: You have a completed Master's Degree in Environmental Sciences, Environmental or Energy Economics, Environmental Policy, Engineering, or related area.
Experience: You have 7+ years of professional experience, within a corporate sustainability, account management and/or relationship management role.
You have expertise in climate mitigation in the energy sector within an industrial, consulting, academic, or civil society context.
You have a good command of mitigation pathways, climate scenarios, and decarbonization roadmaps and knowledge of corporate GHGs accounting and science-based target setting.
You are familiar with agile or other project management approaches.
You are familiar with standard-setting protocols, including ISEAL, ISO and others.
You have experience communicating technical information to non-technical audiences.
You have experience working with high-level stakeholders from industry, finance, and civil society organizations.
Languages: Verbal and written proficiency in English required.
Requirements: Existing work authorization is required where this position is based. WRI is unable to provide visa work authorization for this role.
