Energy & Environment, one of Ricardo plc’s five operating business units, is a leader in sustainability consultancy, solving complex environmental challenges through industry-leading analysis, advice and data. We are looking for self-driven, motivated modellers to join our offices in Athens and work alongside our energy system modelling team on high-standing consulting projects for international organisations, national governments, and the private sector.

Key responsibilities

In this position you will perform quantitative research to support various activities of the CompactPRIMES energy system model. More specifically, you will:

• Operate, maintain and update the CompactPRIMES current model versions.

• Develop country specific CompactPRIMES models.

• Collect, structure, maintain and analyze country-specific databases with relevance for energy, economy and power sector.

• Work closely with modellers and analysts and contribute to the preparation of energy policy scenarios.

• Draft reports and/or presentations on the energy sector based on model results.

Key competencies and experience

• Hold an MSc degree in engineering, applied mathematics or physics.
• Proven work and/or research experience in the field of energy systems analysis or engineering. Experience in operations research, mathematical programming, optimization modelling or general software programming is an asset.
• Demonstrated data management skills, including the ability to use programming tools, preferably GAMS or Python or R for modelling.
• Be an excellent user of MS Office, with emphasis on MS Excel (including VBA).
• Be proficient in English (verbal and written).
• Have a good understanding of European and/or international energy and environmental policy issues and of fundamentals of economic theory.
• Have a detail-oriented and problem-solving mindset, collaborative attitude and willingness to learn.
• Proven writing skills gained through (co-) authorship of academic articles, technical and/or policy reports in English is an asset.
