Program Description
The Elementary Learning Center serves The Island School’s youngest learners in a multi-age classroom. The ELC uses a blend of the best evidence-based practices in early and elementary education, while following the same educational principles as the overall organization – learning and growing in an environment that values hands-on, place-based education. The ELC’ s goal is to nurture the social-emotional and academic development of students through a rich, stimulating, hands-on learning environment that encourages students to use their creativity, curiosity, and intellect to explore, grow, and think critically about the world around them. The ELC serves children ages 3-10 from the greater Island School and Eleuthera community.
Position Description
The Elementary Learning Center seeks an enthusiastic, energetic, and creative person to help deliver a specialized curriculum for its young learners. The ideal candidate will have previous experience working with children ages 3-10 in a group setting. The intern will spend their time exploring the Island School campus with young children while carrying out a specifically designed curriculum. This individual should have a love of children, enjoy being outdoors, and understand the principles and facets of the organization. Ideal candidates will be studying education, child development, or another closely related field. This internship runs for a full semester at The Island School campus in Eleuthera, The Bahamas and reports directly to the Lead Teacher of the ELC.

Costs
Room and board is provided to interns at a discounted rate of $1,200 per month, equivalent to 50% of the standard cost. Accommodation fees are inclusive of shared dormitory style accommodation on campus, with internet access and three meals a day in our dining hall. The Island School covers visa fees, airport transfers from Rock Sound Airport (airport code ‘RSD’), training and professional development. Based on program-specific schedules, interns may have the opportunity to experience kayaking, snorkeling, SCUBA diving, community engagement, and island exploration.
