PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
As the DRM-SLIP Coordinator, you will be responsible for direct oversight of the PIE Project activities in planning, delivering and following up training activities for school Head Teachers (HTs) and School Board of Management (SBOM) representatives related to Disaster Risk Management (DRM). You will participate in the development of training plans for the DRM-SLIP component and conduct Training of Trainers in project target areas. The TOT participants inclusive of ChildFund Provincial Trainers, NDOE, PDOE and District Education officials, will then extend the training to HTs and SBOM representatives. You will follow up on the training to collect data, both quantitative and qualitative, on results at the school and community level with the principal indicator expected to be whether, and/or to what extent, schools have added a DRM strategy to their SLIP plans. Your role will include working with project financial and administration staff to track and document disbursements related to DRM-SLIP activities.
KEY DUTIES
- Regularly meet with the PIE Project Manager, Training Coordinators, Provincial Trainers, NDOE officers and other stakeholders to prepare work plans, schedules and budgets for the DRM-SLIP component of the project and ensure their circulation and follow up.
- Through regular formal meetings and informal contacts with PIE Provincial Trainers and NDOE partners, track DRM-SLIP progress in order to anticipate/detect departures from plans and schedules; lead actions to get back on track or adjust to changing circumstances.
- Work closely with ChildFund Australia education specialists in Sydney to develop training plans and support materials for DRM-SLIP and provide feedback on drafts.
- Maintain close and regular working relationships with key officials in the EiE Committee and relevant Divisions of the NDOE on the development of DRM-SLIP curriculum and planning of training.
- Prepare, at the end of each month, a brief report on activities undertaken and share with project colleagues at District and Provincial level
- Compile data on progress in the project to inform project required narrative and financial reports and evaluative studies.
- Conduct or participate in M&E activities required for the project for both the DRM-SLIP component and/or more general M&E tasks.
- Ensure compliance with CF policies and procedures
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Degree in Education or other relevant discipline or educational qualification recognised in PNG.
- At least 5 years’ experience as a school leader, classroom teacher at elementary and primary level and/or experience as an NDOE official at sub-national level.
- Experience as a trainer or adult educator either in a formal institution or in Non-Formal Education.
- Experience in implementing a project with an NGO ideally education including facilitation and capacity building.
- Understanding of quantitative and qualitative methods of monitoring and evaluation.
DESIRABLE
- Experience as a head teacher in a PNG school
- Experience as an NDOE official at national/sub-national level in a relevant division or position
- A working knowledge of policy/practice of SLIP in PNG
- Work or casual experience in the field of disaster reduction, management or response in PNG
