POSITION SUMMARY
Feeding South Florida Drivers will perform transportation duties in the field picking up and delivering donated products as well as assisting with general warehouse duties. Drivers play a key role in vehicle maintenance and maintaining Quality Control standards of the product being transported. Drivers must enjoy meeting, interacting with, and showing appreciation to customers. This position requires enthusiastic interaction with the public and with other staff members.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
- Inspect, operate, and maintain assigned trucks/trailers in a clean, professional, and safe manner in accordance with company standards.
- Comply with all company safety policies and immediately report any issue that requires attention.
- Ensure, through continuous monitoring and reporting, that all DOT, OSHA, state, local, and any other regulatory standards to which Feeding South Florida adheres to are met. This includes Feeding America salvage guidelines and inventory control, and distribution procedures are met.
- Complete daily routes as assigned and notify each partner organization of your status (i.e., call each location before arriving).
- Complete all assignments in such a way that maintains the integrity of products through proper inspection, handling, and storage procedures.
- Inspect all products to be picked up and notify the direct supervisor/manager of expired, contaminated, or otherwise unsafe products prior to picking up.
- Communicate with dispatch as needed or required.
- Transport food products under proper sanitary and climate-controlled conditions.
- Establish professional/friendly rapport with representatives of donors and other partner organizations.
- Weigh and record the weights of the product.
- Assist with loading and unloading at donor sites, delivery sites, and warehouses as needed.
- Maintain proper storage separation of food and non-food items.
- Advise management of any safety and sanitation violations and the need for repairs to equipment.
- Operate warehouse equipment as needed.
- Perform all tasks with a sense of urgency.
- Conduct other duties as assigned by Management.
Job requirements
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
- A minimum of two years of commercial driving experience is strongly preferred.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills required.
- Ability to work with diverse staff and external constituencies required.
- Strong attention to detail is required.
- Able to operate a refrigerated van, lift-gate, and electric pallet jack.
- Commitment to the service of others while fully supporting the organization’s mission and values required.
- Must be Background Level 2 Compliant
REQUIRED LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, OR KNOWLEDGE:
- Valid Florida Driver’s License (non-CDL)
- Knowledge of DOT and FMCSA policies.
- Knowledge of Material Handling Equipment.
- Knowledge of Safe Food Handling Procedures.
PHYSICAL DEMAND & WORKING CONDITIONS
- Hours of Operation: Although organization hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. However, this position will work Monday to Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with some required Saturdays, and might work closer to 45-50 hours per week, especially during peak times such as holiday seasons, growing seasons, and disaster response. After-hours business work is required occasionally throughout the year.
- Environment: This position works in a kitchen setting with long periods of standing, talking, and/or visual concentration, and use of kitchen equipment that always requires the highest levels of safety standards. Occasional work will occur in the warehouse or outside in fields and warehouses in inclement weather. The noise in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
- Travel: FSF serves four counties so there is often same-day travel between the counties, using a personal vehicle, and occasional out-of-town travel for meetings, conferences, or special events.
- OSHA Standards: Lifting requirements are 50 pounds and when lifting loads heavier than 50 pounds, use two or more people to lift the load.
