About the role

GVI is looking for a Dive Coordinator who can oversee the effective day to day running of the dive operation, as well as manage the learning journey for our participants as they complete their PADI OW, AOW, rescue, and specialty courses. They will have experience with leadership, specifically volunteer or guest management, and have a professional PADI Dive Instructor qualification.

Role and responsibilities:

  • Responsible for coordinating all diving-related activities: ensure all participants obtain their certificates on time, have sufficient dive training to undertake the science-related research, and support participants who need additional training.
  • Lead one weekly meeting with the dive team to discuss any challenges or additional jobs from the previous and coming weeks.
  • Have one weekly meeting with the PM or SrC to go over the coming week's schedule together with the Science Coordinator.
  • Responsible for issuing all certificates through the online PADI centre within one week of course completion or participants departing the programme.
  • Responsible for communicating with the Science Coordinator what skill level each participant has so they can schedule the participants for the correct research activities.
  • Assist with intakes and orientation.
  • Repair and service dive equipment within your abilities. Inform the PM of any repairs or services which are unable to be completed in good time to ensure sufficient funds are available.
  • Maintain logs on equipment repairs completed.
  • Maintain an inventory of all dive and compressor equipment. Request for parts/equipment to be placed quarterly or as needed.
  • Maintain logbooks for the compressor hours and services required/completed.
  • Schedule and organise regular servicing and dry dock for yearly inspection of the boats.
  • Maintain logs for boat maintenance and repairs.
  • Request reordering of PADI PICs and materials in good time. Inform PM when available PICs are not sufficient for upcoming certifications.
  • Keep a log of all divers certified under the GVI Seychelles Dive Centre (who, when, which course, etc.)
  • Assist with daily duties/housekeeping and day-to-day operations of base life.
  • Care, maintenance and safety of the kit room, compressor, boats and dive vehicles. Inform PM of any pertinent issues.
  • While the focus is on all dive-related tasks, expect to assist with presentations and science training, based on comfort, knowledge and available time.
  • Should expect to be working in the field 3-4 days a week depending on the season and perform office duties the remainder of the week. The work week can include weekends when scheduled for intakes or base duties.

Professional skills and experience:

  • Minimum PADI OWSI Instructor

  • Degree in Environmental Science/Marine Biology or experience in a relevant field.

  • Scheduling and volunteer management experience 2+ years

  • Powerboat Level 2 licence (or equivalent) and boat handling experience

  • Standard drivers’ licence, preferably manual

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office or equivalent

  • Valid Medic First Aid instructor qualification

  • Experience in boat and engine maintenance and repair, small engine mechanic

  • Experience of living in a remote location with minimal supervision

  • Experience in marine ecosystem research

  • Experience in coastal ecosystem research
