All Hands and Hearts is a disaster relief nonprofit. This position requires travel to our communal program bases which are located in the communities we serve. Position Purpose
A versatile position within a dynamic nonprofit that provides community-inspired, volunteer-powered disaster relief. The Disaster Response Specialist will act as one of the leads for the Disaster Assessment and Response Team and be deployed to assist in post-disaster assessments and program start-up after disaster events. Outside of disaster events, the Disaster Response Specialist will assist in strategy development, program management, and implementing environmental recovery & disaster mitigation projects.

Essential Functions
- Support the Global Response Manager with disaster assessment and program development by:
- Providing training and guidance in response scopes to different audiences
- Developing a deployment strategy for potential and incoming disasters
- Managing and communicating with DART roster, both during blue skies and disaster events
- Assessing community needs and developing the program strategy
- Assisting in program management and stepping in as acting Program Director or Incident Commander as needed
- Building relationships with local emergency management agencies and NGOs
- Refine and develop standard operating procedures for new and existing scopes of work
- Creating situation reports on disaster events and program strategy
- Effectively communicate intent and needs to internal and external stakeholders
- Offer skilled troubleshooting and technical advice on either chainsaw, construction, or tarping operations
- Communicate tasks and expectations clearly to team members; provide effective technical training and constructive feedback when necessary to ensure compliance with project safety and quality standards.
- Travel to existing U.S. based programs to provide operational support as needed
- We understand vaccination is the best way to protect our beneficiaries, community members, staff and volunteers, therefore we require all off-program team members in in-person work environments including offices, team meetings, traveling to program, etc. must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. To be considered for this position you must be fully vaccinated. Subject to applicable guidance, the term fully vaccinated currently refers to when an individual has received either a single-shot vaccine or both doses of a two-shot vaccine, and two weeks have elapsed since the final dose.

Position Requirements
- Education High School degree or equivalent; Bachelor's degree in a relevant field preferred.
- Related Experience At least 6 months in leading teams in a post-disaster or similar setting. Experience in working with NGOs, All Hands and Hearts, Americorps, DARTs, or similar settings preferred. Previous All Hands and Hearts staff or volunteer experience preferred. Familiarity with the Incident Command System.
- Special Competencies/Certifications Must be legally authorized to work in the US. Good written and oral communication skills and confidence working with Google Suite, Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel. Applicants need to be well organized and have a flexible approach to managing multiple tasks and prioritizing them appropriately. The individual is able to manage a large workload while prioritizing healthy boundaries and authentic self-care. Good listener, capable of being compassionate and understanding with homeowners, partners, and the community. Valid driver's license required and clean driving record.
- Work Environment/Conditions Based in home office. Travel required 60-80% of the time (expenses covered). Communal living environment when traveling. High-stress situations; immediate aftermath of a disaster event.
Compensation & Benefits
- Compensation Typical starting range: $33,000 - $34,875 USD, which will be based on skills and experience. Annual pay increases may be available, up to a salary maximum of $43,500 for U.S. based employees.
