The Role: Director, Strategic Materials

Svante is a rapidly growing clean energy technology company making commercial-scale carbon capture and removal a reality, enabling global industries to play offense in the fight against climate change. We are looking for a committed individual to join us in the role of Director, Strategic Materials. Strategic Materials are defined as the core items that together constitute Svante’s proprietary filter bed technology.

The Director will be a key player in Svante’s journey to full commercialization. This person will be a member of Svante’s Global Supply Chain team and will work broadly with various departments within Svante including, Manufacturing, Product Development, Quality, Finance, Legal, and other Svante departments as required.

The primary role of the Director is developing partnerships with strategic suppliers of Svante’s core materials. These partnerships are critical in developing the supply chain capacity and capability needed for high volume production at Svante. The companies that supply these materials are world-class organizations that are pivoting their core business to support the new and rapidly developing carbon capture industry.

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

  • Member of the Global Supply Chain and Operations team.
  • Developing and implementing a long-term roadmap for the supply of strategic materials to Svante including, but not limited to, secure supply, alternate sources, continuous improvement, cost reduction.
  • Working closely with the Research and Development team at Svante to remain informed of materials development activities.
  • Developing and maintaining partnerships with suppliers of Svante’s strategic materials. These companies are typically significant, world-class organizations, some of whom are household names.
  • Leading regular meetings with Svante teams and suppliers to continue the development of strategic materials and secure supply.
  • Finding and developing toll-manufacturers capable of enhancing Svante’s manufacturing capabilities and capacity.
  • Occasional travel to supplier sites around the world will be required.
  • Sourcing alternative suppliers will be required as this is an element of secure supply in a high volume environment.
  • Working with Svante’s legal department, implementing both Development and Supply agreements as needed.
  • Working with suppliers to achieve Svante’s target material cost objectives.
  • Implementing sustainable practices for strategic materials.
  • Assisting in the preparation of monthly management reports.
  • Carrying out other related tasks and projects as required.

Key Qualifications (knowledge, skills and abilities):

  • Relevant university degree.
  • Minimum ten years of relevant job experience in a technology development environment.
  • Accomplished self-starter with exceptional interpersonal skills.
  • Strong communicator with an ability to use an appropriate assortment of verbal, written and presentation strategies.
  • Working knowledge of legal agreements.
  • Proven ability to work well with cross-functional teams and diverse groups of stakeholders.
  • Adaptable to change.
  • Ability to develop and deliver presentations.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Good time management, with ability to organize, prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail.
