The Role: The Director of Business & Product Development will be a member of the Specialty Flow Control Leadership Team, in charge of both defining customer needs and wants (such as outcomes) and ensuring that throughout the development of product and business opportunities the customer is clearly represented from concept through to launch. The role has direct responsibility for the global project management and business development teams for SFC, accountable for setting & meeting project milestones as defined by the teams. The role is also responsible for the evolution of the processes and behaviors within these teams to ensure SFC evolves and is ready for the future, especially adapting to cope not only with physical product but also new business models and even how the SFC LT execute their defined vision for the business.
Essential Responsibilities & Duties:
- Creating and managing customer interface groups such as Beta test groups, customer advisor groups and/or pilot groups that help provide consistent and frequent feedback during development.
- Ensure that the definition of Product Owner is well represented in the development of customer or NPD opportunities, whether directly by this department or coaching a member of the project teams to take on the role in each project.
- Responsible for building the project teams to ensure strong execution throughout the product development processes but especially in defining and implementing the desired processes and behaviors to achieve the best results
- Responsible for defining the R&D OPEX and CAPEX budgets including Long Range Plan & the Annual Operating Plan
- Responsible for developing and stabilizing the SFC LT priority funnel (how SFC LT executes the vision)
- Responsible for how new business opportunities are processed through the business and specifically taking ownership of the XPD and Complex Projects from start to finish
- Working with the Market Champions and Product Management to ensure a good quality of Gate 0s as well as aligned progression through the funnel to launch.
- Responsible for the SFC Salesforce dashboard and development, working with the sales team to ensure accurate data and sharing of best practice globally.
- Work with regional teams to identify growth opportunities, whether product or business related, scoping and providing business justifications for any investments required as well as generating next steps for the sales teams or others to act on.
- Works closely with the SFC Leadership Team to ensure regional actions are aligned with the overall SFC strategy
- Responsible for aligning with the wider Xylem teams best practice for Product and Business Development
- Act as Programme Manager for the complete SFC XPD portfolio, ensuring correct Project Management support and reporting out to relevant Xylem reviews- Big Board, CAPEX/OPEX reviews and similar
- Directly involved as Business Development Manager for the Americas, ensuring the right level of support to local teams complementing support from your US based team.
Minimum Qualifications: Education, Experience, Skills, Abilities, License/Certification:
- Bachelor's Degree in related field
- 5+ years of related experience
- Sales or Business Development Leadership in a complex environment
- Cross functional collaboration
- Strong planning and execution capabilities
- Motivation & sales driven mindset
- Experience working with OEMs
