The Oversight Board makes binding and independent decisions about the most challenging content issues on Facebook, Instagram and Threads. Members of the Board include Helle Thorning-Schmidt, former Prime Minister of Denmark, Tawakkol Karman, Nobel Peace Prize winner, Michael McConnell, Director of Stanford’s Constitutional Law Center, and many other diverse leaders and thinkers from around the world. The Board issued its first decisions in January 2021.
The Oversight Board Administration is the team of full-time staff who support the Board. The Administration has a presence in London, San Francisco and Washington, D.C., and operates with a global scope.

Role and Responsibilities:
The Director of People is a critical role in developing and implementing strategies that enhance employee experience and engagement within Oversight Board. The Director of People will act as a strategic business partner and subject matter expert for the Executive Team and other key stakeholders within the organization. The post holder will have a focussed approach to guide Oversight Board through the complexities of an evolving, fast-paced organisation. This position combines strategic leadership with operational oversight, focusing on cost-effectiveness, technology implementation, and employee experience.
Reporting to the VP, Operations, key responsibilities include the development, governance, and implementation of the People Team’s strategy across all Oversight Board’s locations (US and UK), collaborating, guiding, and directing the People team in the refinement and continued development of its structures, policies, processes, and programmes to cultivate and implement Oversight Board Administrations strategic vision.
As a member of the Senior Management Team, the post holder will provide subject matter expertise in a highly skilled and complex field, translating business objectives into people solutions. Success in this role requires strong leadership skills and business acumen, with a passion for supporting high-performing teams whilst fostering strong employee experience utilising a people first approach.The Director of People will oversee centralized HR functions. Experience in overseeing remote business units within the EU will be important. This role will be responsible for streamlining HR processes, improving efficiency, and ensuring consistent service delivery across both the Oversight Board and the third-party organization.
Key responsibilities of the role include:
Instrumental in executing the Executive Team’s vision for the workplace culture that values and prioritises employee well-being and development.
Development and refinement of recruitment strategies for attracting and retaining top talent for business growth and innovation (aligned with company values).
Utilising HRMI collection tools to support evidence-based decision making, interpreting data to understand trends, predict outcomes, and measure the effectiveness of HR initiatives. By leveraging this data, to gain insights into employee performance, compensation fairness, talent acquisition, and retention strategies, enabling continual improvements in HR investments to the business.
Champion of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), fostering an inclusive environment where every employee feels valued and respected.
Skills and Experience:
Extensive experience of strategically developing HR teams and implementing HR strategies, preferably in a regulated industry.
Demonstrable HR experience at executive level with hands-on UK employment law expertise required (EU and US employment law experience advantageous).
Excellent leadership skills in managing stakeholders with diverse cultural and professional backgrounds, spread across geographies and time zones.
Extensive project management experience working on complex projects with cross-functional teams and multiple external stakeholders.
Excellent communication (spoken, written, listening), interpersonal and influencing skills with the ability to bridge specialism and business
Demonstrated success in driving process improvements, operational efficiencies, and enhanced employee experiences.
Capable of building positive relationships with employees at all levels of the organisation.
Lead by coaching and mentoring team members, guiding their professional growth and empowering them to reach their highest potential.
