The Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) is a non-profit environmental advocacy organization. We use law, science, and the support of 3.1 million members and online activists to protect the planet's wildlife and wild places and to ensure the rights of all people to clean air, clean water, and healthy communities. NRDC was founded in 1970 and our staff helped write some of America's bedrock environmental laws, including the Clean Water Act, and many of the implementing regulations. Position Summary:
NRDC is currently seeking a skilled Director of Development to lead NRDC’s Major Gifts team for the Western region, which comprises California and the entire west coast region. The Major Gifts regional team is comprised of six major gifts officers - in addition to one assistant in one of NRDC’s most important markets representing over $10M annually. This full-time position, located at NRDC’s office in Los Angeles or San Francisco, will play an important role as we implement our new comprehensive climate strategy.
Working closely with the National Director, Principal and Major Gifts, the Director is expected to plan, direct, and execute a Major Gifts strategy for the region in partnership with Donor Relations, Special Events, Membership, and all other development colleagues. This includes the effective deployment of the fundraising team, leveraging senior leadership to accelerate giving in the region. and personally managing a high-value portfolio of donors with capacity to give at the six- and seven-figure levels. The Director will join a senior team of regional directors of development, working closely with colleagues in other regional offices to maximize NRDC’s national brand and reach.
The Director of Development, Western Region must be a highly skilled major gift fundraiser with a track record of successfully and strategically identifying, cultivating, and stewarding donors at the six- and seven-figure levels. Other desired skills and qualifications include:

We offer competitive salaries, excellent benefits, and a supportive working environment. Salary is based on a nonprofit scale and commensurate with skills and experience. The salary for this position could range from $185,000 to $195,000. Internal equity considerations will be reviewed before making a final offer.
