3degrees is hiring a

Director, Market Strategy & Competitive Intelligence

🇺🇸 Portland, OR, US 📝 FULL-TIME

Every day, we work together for what matters – bold, swift, and equitable climate action.

ABOUT THE ROLEAt 3Degrees, we help companies large and small take action toward a clean, prosperous future. In order to do this effectively, 3Degrees needs to understand market, technology, and policy trends that impact our clients.  The Market Intelligence Team (MIT) provides such information to our client-facing colleagues; this role within MIT leads the effort to collect and analyze competitive markets and energy technology trends and convey that intelligence to key stakeholders across the organization.  The output of this work helps answer questions such as: What new products and services should 3Degrees offer?  What trends do our existing businesses and customers need to understand today and how should 3Degrees be positioned relative to competitors?

This role requires someone who is a student of energy and emissions markets; someone who enjoys analysis and translating analysis into practical business recommendations.

This role reports to the Vice President of the Market Intelligence Team.  Ideally based in Portland, OR or San Francisco, CA but the right candidate may be anywhere in the USA with an agreement to travel periodically for training and team collaboration.

Initial deliverables include the following:

Trends analysis and competitor tracking:

  • Lead demand-side market analysis projects (e.g. demand forecasting, fundamentals analysis of market size and gaps in services) for 3Degrees’ Sales team
  • Track and update business units on new energy technology trends to understand how they may impact our markets and customers
  • Track competitors of 3Degrees; collaborate with marketing to provide quarterly market reports by business unit
  • Produce “competitor benchmark reports” for interested customers/potential clients to help them gauge relative positioning within the context of goal-setting

Support New Product Development process work:

  • Support the development of new products based on analysis of customer needs, competitor analysis, and market trends
  • Work with business leads to step through the early phases of the internal Product Development ("Stage-gate") process

Partner with the Regulatory Affairs team:

  • Model the implications of legislative and regulatory changes on 3Degrees’ target markets and existing customers
  • Working with regulatory affairs, lead comprehensive quarterly update meetings with each business unit

ABOUT YOU

You are a driven self-starter excited to tackle meaningful work while thinking about the bigger picture of how the company will scale and grow. You are passionate and innovative in your approach to scaling a function within a growing global company and you are excited by the opportunity to deliver impactful work that can result in better outcomes for our customers and our planet. For this role, we believe that you have the following skills that will give you the best opportunity for success in this role:

  • 5-7 years of experience in a role focused on market intelligence, including analysis, research, and process for delivery of content to key stakeholders
  • Experience managing, mentoring, and coaching market and/or data analysts
  • Strong writing skills and experience developing presentations in PowerPoint and/or Google Slides
  • Ability to establish credibility throughout the organization as an effective business partner and problem solver
  • Desire to connect disparate data points and concepts to identify trends in market activity and market participant behavior
