Your Opportunity
Dillon is currently seeking candidates for a Director, Health and Safety (H&S) to support our commitment to a healthy and safe workplace. Reporting to the Executive Director, Operational Services, the Director H&S will lead the achievement of our objective to be a leader in providing a healthy and safe work environment which is fundamental to Dillon’s success and sustainability. The Director H&S will be responsible to establish a long-term vision and lead the evolution of our current health and safety program and practices to meet Dillon’s current and future needs.

Responsibilities
What your day will look like
Health & Safety Leadership (97%)
- Serve as a key leadership member of the Operational Services and Operations Management teams to support the achievement of Dillon’s business goals and objectives
- Establish the long-term strategic vision for Dillon’s Health and Safety Program that is aligned with our current and future business needs, including team structure, resources, management system framework, systems automation, and business integration
- Lead the evolution of Dillon’s approach to workplace psychological health and safety in the workplace in accordance with legislative requirements, as well as our company policies, programs and practices
- Develop and implement annual business plans that achieve a balance between annual priority business needs and compliance requirements, along with progress towards realizing the longer-term vision for Dillon’s Health and Safety Program
- Establish effective leading and lagging indicators to monitor health and safety performance and risks, including regular reporting to senior management and the Board of Directors
- Lead our approach to realizing continual improvements in health and safety performance and risks by identifying actionable insights from various sources, including key performance indicators, incident reports, external audits, vendor management systems, employee surveys, etc
- Lead the implementation of initiatives that positively influence and align the actions and behaviours exhibited by our leaders and all employees to support Dillon’s obligations and commitment to the primary importance of workplace health and safety
- Establish strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to stay current on industry trends and to raise Dillon’s brand and reputation for high standards of workplace health and safety performance and employee well-being
- Lead the ongoing evolution of our Health and Safety Program Manual to serve our project health and safety planning needs based on legislative requirements and industry best practices, including the related policies, procedures, guidelines and tools
- Lead our approach to maintaining our health and safety standing, as required to support our client requirements and business objectives, including through vendor management systems and industry certifications
- Lead our approach to employee health and safety training
- Collaborate with Dillon’s other business groups or teams where health and safety expertise is required to support various business needs
- Commit to being part of a learning organization, by providing leadership and contributing to the career development of staff, including training, coaching and mentoring
- Provide leadership and continued development and growth of the health and safety team
- Contribute to Dillon’s corporate profile through active participation in professional associations and committees
- Business travel upon request

Qualifications
What will you need to succeed
- A degree in Occupational Health, Social Sciences or Health related field
- A minimum of 10 years’ experience in a corporate level health and safety management capacity, preferably in the professional consulting services industry developing, executing and monitoring safety programs and activities at a national scale in Canada
- Certification as a Canadian Registered Safety Professional
- Certification in Emergency Planning or Emergency Management is considered an asset
Experience
- In-depth understanding of Health and Safety policies and regulations across Canada
- Knowledge and demonstrated success in the development of leading Health and Safety programs in a formal management system framework, including experience in related systems automation platforms
- Demonstrated systems thinking skills and experience gained from corporate level positions in a complex, multi-disciplinary, nationally-based business environment
- Demonstrated experience in effectively leading and managing change at an organizational scale
- Demonstrated experience in stakeholder engagement, project management and project delivery
- Relationship management, partnership building, collaboration skills to work effectively with various internal/external stakeholders and functional groups in a matrix oriented business environment
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate at all levels of the organization – Board, Executive Leadership team, Operations Management team, and staff
- Demonstrated ability to motivate and positively influence the actions and behaviours of leaders and employees at an organizational scale
- Ability to innovate and work effectively and efficiently by identifying and focusing on key priorities to achieve desired outcomes with the resources that are available
- Analytical and problem solving skills to identify root causes, trends, and actionable insights that lead to continual improvements in performance and risks
- Superior leadership with a track record of leading and developing teams
- Demonstrated negotiation, conflict resolution and influencing skills to lead consultations and negotiate/resolve issues
- Excellent verbal communication and business writing skills
