Job Summary:

The Director, Global Financial Planning & Analysis has overall accountability for establishing the framework and design of Li-Cycle’s processes to provide financial analysis and insight to both internal and external stakeholders.  This position will oversee the Corporate Centre of Excellence (CoE), which will be responsible for establishing the tools, policies and processes / frameworks for all aspects of Li-Cycles Financial Planning & Analysis activities including:

  • Integrated planning process (Long range plan, annual budget, forecasts)
  • Analysis and explanation of variances (actual vs. budget / forecast)
  • Financial evaluation of proposed capital investments, and reporting / monitoring of global capital expenditure
  • Analysis of product costs (both actual and budgeted)
  • Any ad hoc financial analysis, including M&A activity and any other investment analysis

A key component of the role is communication and collaboration with regional executives, operational / site leaders and the Regional Directors for Financial Decision Support & Insight. The ideal candidate will possess strong progressive financial planning and analysis experience in a multi-jurisdictional environment and seeks the challenge of working with a growing and dynamic finance organization.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Design, and maintain Li-Cycle’s integrated business planning process (including long-term planning, annual budgeting, and forecasting).
    1. Establish tools / templates / formats for regional input into the planning process. Define and maintain planning process(es), standards and schedule / timetable.
    2. Provide support to regional FP&A teams / leadership for planning / forecasting.
    3. Manage the preparation of corporate office inputs to business planning processes (planning, annual budgeting & forecasting).
  • Consolidate regional plans / budgets / forecasts to prepare consolidated results.
    1. Provide analysis / commentary on overall consolidated results, incorporating regional inputs / analysis.
  • Prepare consolidated analysis / commentary on actual results vs. plan as part of monthly / quarterly reporting.
    1. Define standards / templates for regional submission of results including variance analysis & commentary.
    2. Provide analysis / commentary on overall consolidated results, incorporating regional inputs / analysis.
  • Design and maintain processes for Capital Project planning & control.
    1. Develop capital investment policies and procedures to apply across all regions.
    2. Establish and maintain the Li-Cycle Capital Expenditure Approval process, including coordination of gathering inputs to the AFE submission, and assisting the financial evaluation of the proposed investment. Develop and maintain process for approval of consolidated capital expenditure plans and budgets, and allocation of capital budgets to regions / projects.
    3. Establish and maintain a consolidated (enterprise-wide) process to monitor and track capital projects and budget spending.
    4. Prepare consolidated Capital Project reporting & analysis, incorporating and consolidating regional input.
  • Consolidate regional cost analysis to prepare consolidated (enterprise-wide) cost analysis. Prepare cost reporting for both actual and budget / projected as well as ad-hoc cost analysis for corporate management on a consolidated basis.
  • Support M&A activities as required, including providing support for the financial evaluation of potential acquisitions or divestitures initiated within the region.
  • Leads and participates in special projects as required.
  • Prepares performance reviews for and provides direction and leadership to reports.

Job Qualifications:

  • The ideal Director, Global Financial Planning & Analysis is a leader with 10+ years of experience in financial planning and analysis in a global environment, including experience at the Director level.
  • Five + years of leading a team of finance professionals, including remote reports.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Commerce or Administration with CPA, CA/CGA/CMA or equivalent designation. Masters degree in Business Administration (MBA) would be an asset.
  • Extensive expertise in budgeting, forecasting, financial modeling, and planning & analysis.
  • Highly analytical with the ability to translate large amounts of data and information into strategic and actionable insights and business recommendations.
  • Experience working in an Oracle environment preferred.
  • Demonstrated management, leadership and problem-solving skills.
  • Team-oriented, with excellent relationship building and communication skills.
  • Exceptional ability to manage time, set priorities, and work efficiently under pressure.
  • Proven track record of process improvement and effective change management.Energized by a fast-paced innovative environment, this leader has the proven ability to establish scale and continuously improve the core finance operations of a growing international company.
