About the opportunity
A Director at SWCA is responsible for providing strategic direction, leadership, client and business development, financial oversight, staff management, and business acumen in alignment with SWCA’s North Star, Core Values, annual plans, and initiatives. The Strategic Growth Director focuses on providing continued growth opportunities through client development and management, business development, program delivery, strategic hires and acquisitions, and geographic expansion initiatives in alignment with overall company growth plans.
A Strategic Growth Director is responsible for successfully managing current opportunities and challenges while also maintaining a strategic and forward-looking plan. The Strategic Growth Directors will be based in regional organizations, reporting to Senior Vice Presidents, and will work with Vice Presidents and Directors, as well as the CEO and SLT to develop SWCA’s regional and companywide growth initiatives
What you will accomplish
The Strategic Growth Director is primarily responsible for advancing strategy, growth, and client development and relationships for SWCA. They are expected to contribute to SWCA by growing and diversifying markets, clientele, and geographies and collaborating as necessary with staff in all SWCA offices. Another duty involves management of client relationships and may include being a Client Manager for key clients, contributing significantly to sales, and coordinating with Business Development Resources. It is expected that a Strategic Growth Directors will also identify existing SWCA employees who have shown strong business development acumen and invest coaching/mentoring time as approved by the Senior Vice Presidents. This includes mentoring the current client-focused employees within Operations. Strategic concepts for this position include:
- Identify and pursue (or coordinate the pursuit of) opportunities for geographic expansion, project leads, acquisitions and key hires, and prepare market assessments evaluating potential expansion to achieve SWCA’s strategic initiatives.
- Provide strategy in an adaptive mode that responds successfully to market dynamics and changes in client base.
- Position SWCA with our clients to provide a full range of services, including field capabilities, compliance services, and strategic consulting in a mix prescribed by our clients’ needs.
- Evaluate adding service lines that are synergistic with our current suite of services and can be readily cross-marketed to our clients.
- Provide effective and insightful market assessments through the use of personal networks and good business judgment. Write and lead proposals, support proposal efforts and meet or exceed annual, agreed-upon sales goals.
- Support SWCA as an adaptable enterprise, attentive and responsive to changing markets and conditions; one that embraces change.
- Effectively manage key clients and key accounts through national program delivery so that we have accountability and responsibility for client intelligence, feedback, quality assessment, geographic and service expansion, marketing decisions and delivery.
- Promote diversification of clients and business sectors.
- Contribute to improving risk management in business development, proposal budgeting, and project execution so that overruns and bad debts are minimized or eliminated.
- Assist in onboarding staff from acquisitions or new geographies to SWCA’s culture and processes.
- Promote and lead collaborative pursuit plans across SWCA’s offices in both regions (identify the correct personnel and lead the proposal and/or capture plan process).
Experience and qualifications for success
- Master’s degree or above in a field related to the environmental services that SWCA general provides, including the disciplines of environmental science, planning, archaeology, and engineering.
- Strategic perspective and demonstrated business acumen in consulting/professional services.
- Vision for driving the operations and contributing to annual business plan documents.
- Ability to successfully oversee large projects.
- Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills.
- An ability to communicate and work directly with Vice Presidents, Directors, and SWCA staff.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across state and regional physical boundaries with internal staff as well as clients.
- An excellent working understanding of the types of services that SWCA provides and the ability to successfully market SWCA’s services to existing and prospective clients.
- Dedication to scientific integrity and quality work products for all clientele.
- Demonstrated ability and commitment to meet clients’ needs effectively, creatively, and ethically.
