Digital Communications and Events Specialist, Global Energy

**This position can be based in the WRI US office (DC) or can be fully remote where WRI is state registered with preference to EST time zone. Existing work authorization is required at the time of application submission for the position. WRI is unable to sponsor work authorization for this role.

About the Program:

WRI’s Energy Program collaborates with policymakers, cities, companies, utilities, regulators and development institutions to secure a clean energy future for everyone. We facilitate partnerships to help cities and corporations purchase renewable power at scale to unlock economic opportunities. Our tools and analysis track communities most in need of electricity and identify places where clean energy is the most affordable and reliable solution. We also provide expertise on electric vehicle deployment and help city leaders around the world improve the efficiency of their buildings, a major source of emissions.

Job Highlight:

The Digital Communications and Events Specialist will work to build awareness of and support for our work as a leader in the global clean energy transition. Broadly, you will work with WRI Energy’s communications team and program staff to build a strategy around social media, email and digital marketing. Day-to-day, the bulk of your work will include managing social media feeds, drafting and sending email communications, and promoting and supporting events.

You will be supported by the Global Communications Manager, communications staff throughout the Energy Program’s global network (U.S., Africa, India, Europe and China), Energy Program staff and WRI’s core communications team.

You will report to the Energy Program’s Communications Manager.

What you will do:

Social Media (30% time)

• You will develop and execute a social media strategy for the Global Energy Program informed by methodical analytics and latest best practices.
• You will manage the @WRIEnergy Twitter account and support Global Energy leadership’s Twitter presence using Hootsuite.
• You will draft social posts and digital communications plans for WRI Energy research for platforms including Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn.

Email Marketing (30% time)

• You will draft, edit and send mass email campaigns and recurring newsletters promoting the Energy team’s events, research and overall messaging.
• You will oversee email lists and audience research, including helping organize and maintain WRI Energy’s contact database on Pardot.
• You will support email marketing strategy for the Energy Program’s platforms, tools and resources, including the Clean Energy Investment Accelerator, Energy Access Explorer, Net-Zero Buildings Initiative, City Renewables Accelerator and more.

Webinars and Events (20% time)

• You will support promotion, production and logistical support for WRI Energy webinars (1-2 per month on average, but frequency varies).
• You will occasionally provide logistical and A/V support for in-person and hybrid events.
• You will support the Energy team’s communications priorities throughout keynote events such as the UNFCCC Conference of Parties, NYC Climate Week, the Clean Energy Ministerial, SEforALL Forum and more.

Miscellaneous Communications Needs and Administrative Support (20% time)

• You will regularly track and evaluate metrics of success for WRI Energy’s digital communications.
• You will occasionally support other communications activities as needed, such as maintaining the Energy Program’s web presence on wri.org, media relations and editorial.
• You will provide administrative support as needed, such as coordinating between teams and drafting internal memos.

What you will need:

• Education: You have a completed Bachelors degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing or related fields.
• Experience: You have a minimum of 3+ years full-time relevant work experience in digital marketing, science communications or related fields. Professional experience with social media platforms like Twitter, Hootsuite, LinkedIn, Facebook and Instagram strongly preferred. Experience with Pardot/Salesforce, Google Analytics and/or Zoom webinars a plus.
• Languages: You have written and verbal proficiency in English.
• Requirements: Existing work authorization is required where this position is based. WRI is unable to authorize visa work authorization.
