The National Audubon Society is a nonprofit conservation organization that protects birds and the places they need, today and tomorrow. We work throughout the Americas using science, advocacy, education, and on-the-ground conservation. Audubon’s state, regional, national, and international programs, nature centers, and chapters have an unparalleled wingspan that reaches millions of people each year to inform, inspire, and unite diverse communities in conservation action. As a sentinel species, we recognize that the fate of birds is inextricably tied to the fate of us all.
Audubon has more than 700 staff working across the United States and seven countries in 17 state and regional offices, 41 nature centers, and 23 wildlife sanctuaries. Together as one Audubon, we aspire to alter the course of climate change and habitat loss, leading to healthier bird populations and reversing current trends in biodiversity loss.
Audubon is committed to a culture of workplace excellence, where our talented and diverse staff are deeply engaged, with a strong sense of belonging. The birds Audubon pledges to protect differ in color, size, behavior, geographical preference, and countless other ways. By honoring and celebrating the equally remarkable diversity of the human species, Audubon will bring new creativity, effectiveness, and leadership to our work throughout the hemisphere.
As Audubon strengthens its development program and confirms its position as a philanthropic partner for donors capable of transformational support, its principal giving program will need an experienced manager to support the Vice President for Principal Giving and oversee operations. The Development Manager, Principal Giving will play an important role in Audubon’s continued development of a best in class principal giving program. This position will report to the Vice President for Principal Giving and work closely with national development, principal giving, stewardship, and development communications staff. This is a full-time position.
The principal giving program is a new operation and the first of its kind at Audubon. To ensure the nascent program’s ongoing success in the engagement of $1M+ donors, the program requires an experienced development professional with project management capability and experience in high major/principal-level giving. This is a unique position as it seeks one who will play an essential role creating the structure and systems necessary for this new operation.
The successful candidate will be a self-starter who works well independently and as part of a results-oriented team, who can prioritize workload, and ensure deadlines are met. This person will have experience navigating complex organizations--such as higher education, managing high-level projects and training colleagues, and communicating the role and values of a team within a larger organization.
This position is represented by the Communications Workers of America (CWA).
