Introduction
Cape Eleuthera Foundation, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 1997 to support transformational educational experiences with the mission of leadership effecting change on the island of Eleuthera in the Bahamas. The Foundation’s Philadelphia-based team raises funds to help young people realize their potential, explore academics outside of traditional classroom walls, gain perspective on cultures different than their own and make a positive impact on their world. The Island School and High School Semester and Summer Term, Deep Creek Middle School, Elementary Learning Center, and Community Engagement and Partnerships deliver unique educational journeys in conjunction with the authentic and meaningful work our organization undertakes in research and sustainable development at the Cape Eleuthera Institute, our research and innovation hub. We are reimagining what education is for, and redesigning how education is delivered.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, organized and motivated individual to join our small Philadelphia-based team as the Development Associate and Board Liaison. This is a new position and one of two positions reporting to the Director of Development. The Development Associate and Board Liaison plays an important role by participating in all fundraising activities including annual campaigns, as well as marketing and communications, prospect research, stewardship, and special events, and serves as liaison to the Board of Directors. The Development Associate will also work closely with the Communications team to create content about the Foundation’s fundraising priorities and general stewardship. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, personable, and able to build authentic connections with current and prospective donors.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Fundraising/Development
- Support Director of Development in planning, marketing, and executing annual fundraising campaigns, including Giving Day, Class Gift, and CONCHtribution
- Prepare and send grant reports as needed
- With the Communications team, assist with preparing the Foundation’s Annual Report
- Draft and/or edit gift agreements and other solidifying documents; create templates for, and prepare, major gift proposals
- Maintain individual, foundation, and corporation donor records in Salesforce
- Conduct research on prospective individual, foundation, and corporate donors
- Coordinate pledge reminders and pledge agreements
Stewardship
- Establish and maintain an annual stewardship calendar and lead general donor stewardship efforts
- Draft materials and coordinate stewardship efforts for all campaigns
- Prepare and send annual endowment stewardship reports
- With Director of Development, maintain weekly stewardship list for Head of School and Executive Director
Board Liaison
- With Executive Director, schedule, prepare agendas, and organize logistics for board meetings and committee meetings, including preparation of materials and distribution in advance
- Maintain annual updates of the Directors Handbook
- Maintain accurate records of board meeting minutes, reports, resolutions, and correspondence and upload to OnBoard
- Assist in coordinating travel and accommodation for board meetings and events
- Maintain and update board member contact details, bios, engagement history, and relevant notes in Salesforce
- Assist with the onboarding and orientation process for new board members, ensuring they understand their roles, the Foundation’s mission, and key policies
- Conduct regular OnBoard training with new and current board members
Event Coordination
- General support and coordination, if necessary, for on-island and stateside events throughout the year (Family Weekend, Conferences, Board Meetings, Reunions, Educators Conference, etc.)
Skills and Qualifications
- A university degree and/or an equivalent combination of education
- Preference will be given to candidates in the Boston or Philadelphia area.
- Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated administrative skills and strong organizational skills
- Ability to handle sensitive information with the utmost confidentiality and professionalism
- Strong computer skills and knowledge of social media platforms (Google Suite, Instagram, Facebook, MailChimp)
- Experience with Salesforce preferred
- Flexibility to work well with a diverse group of individuals (alumni, donors, volunteers, faculty, staff, parents, etc.)
- Demonstrated ability to work independently
- Ability to manage multiple projects and adept at accommodating delegated tasks
- Engaging personality with the ability to socialize well with peers and supporters of the organization
