THE ROLE: The DevOps Engineer will be responsible for support, and maintenance of operational software, development of automation scripts, development and maintenance of operational pipelines, and physical support of the servers and infrastructure in our Data Centers.  In this role, the incumbent will also have opportunities to continue the push towards Infrastructure as Code and utilize a wide range of common tools to support environments through automation including Terraform and other commonly used tools in the industry. The successful candidate will have demonstrated the ability to succeed in a fast paced, fluid environment, supporting multiple teams while ensuring initiatives are met. CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:  To perform the job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

  • Using approved tools and processes, create Infrastructure as Code scripts to deploy environments in AWS that can be reused by peer team members and teams
  • Using standard tools and processes, create and utilize pipelines to deploy software applications across multiple environments including lower level, QA, staging and production environments.
  • Work closely with security operations to maintain proper security posture for supported environments and applications including the implementation of automated security testing
  • Setup, configure and maintain high availability (HA) and elasticity requirements in the public cloud when required by applications
  • Develop and maintain robust logging systems
  • Support and work with software engineers
  • Following team standards, provide guidance to peer teams on best practices to deploy infrastructure and applications
  • Implement monitoring and logging standards for infrastructure and applications
  • Participate in an on-call rotation for the Global DevOps team

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science (or similar), or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience
  • 2+ years’ experience with Terraform or similar infrastructure deployment tools
  • 2+ years’ experience with Ansible or similar configuration tool
  • 2+ years’ experience with AWS and/or Azure
  • 2+ years’ experience with continuous integration / continuous delivery tools including builds and deployments (examples include Jenkins, Bamboo, GitLab, Bitbucket Actions)
  • 2+ years’ experience with Git or similar source control tools
  • Experience supporting production workloads in a Linux environment including troubleshooting production issues and shell scripting
  • Experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitLab or Bitbucket Pipelines
  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes or similar technologies in a production environment is required
  • Experience with programming languages such as Python, Ruby, PERL or a similar language is preferred
  • Experience with NGINX, Apache, or similar is preferred
  • Experience working on a DevOps Engineering team that interacts with and enables multiple teams
  • Experience with monitoring tools Datadog, Nagios, or a similar tool
  • Experience with writing and executing SQL queries
  • Experience with relational databases
  • Experience with TCP/IP and other networking protocols
  • Experience with VPNs and firewalls
  • Understanding of agile software development methodologies
  • Ability and desire to learn new skills quickly
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Experience using common Microsoft Office tools to review, create and update documentation, reports, and diagrams

Preferred Qualifications:

  • AWS Architect certification or Azure equivalent is preferred
  • AWS SysOps Associate certification or Azure equivalent is preferred
  • Experience with ArgoCD is preferred
  • Experience with Helm is preferred

SALARY:

The estimated salary range for this position is $100,000 to $120,000 plus bonus.   Starting pay is dependent on multiple factors, such as skills, experience and work location, and is not typically at the top of the range.  At Xylem we offer a competitive compensation package with a generous benefit package, including Medical, Dental, Vision plans, 401(k) with company contribution, paid time off, paid parental leave and tuition reimbursement.
