Kids in the Game is dedicated to providing positive opportunities and experiences through sports and creative play. Every summer, we serve over a thousand NYC children through our summer day camps, which combine sports instruction with creative movement, arts and STEM enrichment, field trips, swimming, and more. WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
Kids in the Game is hiring for Assistant Directors at 7 summer camp locations. We have two different types of Assistant Director positions open at each site. The Assistant Camp Directors are responsible for being the Camp Directors direct support to all things camp. You will be a vital part of the overall success of the program and responsible for general supervision of summer staff and leadership among campers. Most importantly you will be providing a supportive, safe, and fun environment for the campers: Below are the 3 different types of Assistant Director roles at each camp site:
Associate Camp Director; Programming: They will be second in command to the Camp Director and essential to all things programming. This Assistant Director will help with creating the daily structure of the camp schedule and each lesson for the day. They will make sure the counselors are on task and participating during activities to ensure camp runs smoothly.
Assistant Director; Offsite: They will report to the Camp Director and Associate Camp Director with field trip information. This Assistant Director will coordinate all field trip and swim activities at their camp location which include: transportation information, gathering emergency contact information for the trips, making sure the staff and campers are in a 1:5 ratios on the trip, and making the trips an extra special adventure for all campers. They will be the Health Director during field trips as well.
General Responsibilities (Some not applied to each AD function):
Attend orientations, prepare a general outline for campsite, help formulate camp groups, assign staff to positions, preparing the site and conducting staff trainings. Dates TBD but likely Saturdays before camp begins
Ensure that all program equipment and supplies are ordered, available and properly maintained.
Recognize, prevent and correct safety hazards; guard the health and safety of all campers and staff.
Maintains and enforces all camp safety rules and policies, and ensures that safety equipment is in good order and readily available.
Work to reduce conflict among campers, create a team-friendly environment.
Act as a key player in problem solving with staff issues, discipline and parental concerns. Supervise day camp counselors.
Assume equal responsibility of general housekeeping tasks. This includes bagging trash, campsite clean-up, and bus clean up.
Demonstrate organizational skills and have a plan. Plan for the known and have a plan for the unknown.
Help Camp Director create and manage the schedules of the staff. Responsible for weekly lesson plan development and implementation.
Plan and execute the activities in coordination with the program staff and supervisors.
Empower the camp staff team to deliver and supervise all-camp activities and camp functions.
Involve arts and crafts, sports, small group games, large group games, circle activities, character development, songs, leadership and diversity initiatives, and drama in camp.
Make yourself available to parents for questions, concerns and praises.

Compensation: Based on experience - Total Summer Salary (not including training and pre summer stipends) - $5,600 to $6,000
