Mercy Corps has been operating in Venezuela since 2018 implementing humanitarian and development programs, with special emphasis on water, sanitation and hygiene, health, protection, food security, and nutrition, and plays a key role in the collection, analysis, and dissemination of information relevant to the humanitarian community in the country. The team is expanding its programs at the country level and expanding its team at the country level to implement quality programs with the required attention.
The Program
The Venezuelan Crisis Analysis Unit (CAT) is an independent, nonpartisan, nonprofit analytical unit dedicated to facilitating understanding of the humanitarian situation in Venezuela. The products made by CAT pursue the following objectives:
The Position
The Data Scientist will utilize a suite of tools in order to analyze and make forecasts using open data. She/He will work hand in hand with our implementing partner in creating the database, as well as the subsequent design of the dashboard for the presentation of results. It is expected that at the end of the model and tool development process, the data scientist will provide feedback and train the members of the Start Network in its operation.

Success Factor
The Data Scientist will have strong organizational skills and the ability to interact effectively with international and national personnel. He/she will have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and a demonstrated ability to multi-task problem solve, analyze and process information into action. S/he will aim to produce information and learning that is used by program teams to make strategic and operational decisions. A successful Data Scientist will be comfortable with collecting, analyzing and presenting it. Ability to think creatively with incomplete information; Ability to understand quickly the business issues and data challenges of the organization; Able to prioritize in accordance with business needs with limited supervision.
Living Conditions / Environmental Conditions
The position is based in Caracas (or remote), Venezuela and will require occasional travel to support country programs, which may include travel to insecure locations where freedom of movement is limited and areas where amenities are limited. Housing for this role is in individual housing and staff will have access to good medical services.
