SWCA has an opportunity in our Pasadena, California office for Cultural Resources Field Technicians (HR Title = Cultural Resources Technician) who will assist the Field Director and Project Team in completing archaeological pedestrian surveys, construction monitoring, and other field or office tasks in support of a variety of renewable energy, oil and gas, energy transmission, transportation, and land development projects. You will also assist with GPS data collection using tablet units and Geodes, coordinate with contractors in the field, and communicate with the team through daily reporting of field activities.
This is an on-call, hourly position. Anticipated fieldwork will occur throughout southern California, as well as central and northern California and Nevada, including within active U.S. military facilities. The candidate may be asked to submit to background screening in order to work on these facilities. Candidates local to southern California are strongly preferred.
Some projects include overtime hours or prevailing wage rates. Project-related travel and lodging costs are covered, and per diem is provided for project work requiring overnight stays. A technical (i.e., cell phone) allowance is offered, and temporary employees are eligible for paid wellness time (i.e., sick leave), as applicable.
A Bachelor’s degree in anthropology, archaeology, history, or a closely related field is required.
Completion of an accredited field school or equivalent experience required.
At least 6 months of professional fieldwork experience identifying and documenting cultural resources in California and/or the Great Basin using a range of field methodologies, including survey, testing, excavation, and monitoring is required.
Ability to travel (sometimes overnight) to a location for an extended period of time, walk and conduct fieldwork for long hours, sometimes in inclement weather, rugged terrain, often at high altitudes, and ability to carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 40 pounds is required. An understanding and willingness to safely accommodate these environmental challenges is required.
Must have a valid driver's license and the ability to safely operate a 4wd vehicle on rugged, backcountry roads required; must be able to pass a Motor Vehicle background screening.
Must be able to work safely on construction sites and around heavy equipment.
Must be able to communicate and coordinate effectively with cultural resources staff, construction personnel, and Native American monitors.
Knowledge of ArchGIS Collector, and ability to use tablets and Geodes strongly preferred.
Archaeological laboratory experience preferred.
Residing in, or willing to relocate to, southern California (Greater Los Angeles area) strongly preferred.
Flexibility and willingness to learn company procedures, and ability to try new, improved techniques and to make independent decisions when appropriate to the situation or make adjustments as a member of a team in order to complete tasks in the most efficient and accurate manner.
Active 40-hour HAZWOPER training preferred.

An employee in this Pasadena office - based position can expect a salary of $21.09 - 27.84/hr. Actual pay within this range may depend on experience, qualifications, geographic location, client requirements where applicable, and other factors permitted by law.
