Job Summary

Reporting to the Director of Communications and Marketing, the Creative Content Associate will work as part of a team of people who are collectively responsible for telling The Island School story through a wide range of media strategies. The primary role of the Creative Associate is to capture digital content through photo and video, maintain an organized work flow that makes these files accessible on a timely basis, and process images and video into final products that will tell a visually compelling and engaging story. The successful candidate will have demonstrated success in fulfilling video and photo projects, as well as experience collaborating with others and working independently.

As a member of the Communications Department, everyone plays a role in facilitating ongoing communications needs, maintaining project and task schedules, assisting in maintaining The Island School’s online presence, as well as delivering major media projects. The successful individual will be creative, able to work independently to meet clear deliverables and comfortable gathering content in a range of settings and scenarios.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Your primary responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

• Guided by the Director of Communications, leading the capture, editing, development, and production of photos and videos for all aspects of the organization, including daily activities, classes, special events, live streams, etc.
• Independently working on ongoing photo and video projects while also supporting daily social media content, and short term requests
• Processing, archiving and sharing photos and video using established workflow and file structure
• Identifying and implementing innovations in digital capture, sharing, organization, storage, archiving and retrieval solutions
• Managing Communications equipment inventory, ensuring equipment is well cared for, organized and available for team members or other staff as needed
• Assisting faculty and staff with audio-visual equipment setup, and photography & video training for classes
• Setup and recording all events with audio/visual needs in collaboration with the IT department
• Collaborating with team members on social media content creation, sharing, and strategy
• Assisting with basic design and graphics for social media, flyers, website and digital projects
• Contributing to weekly meetings and other aspects of the communication team as needed
• Any other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• 2-3 years professional experience in Communications and Marketing, or a related field
• Exceptional photography / videography skills
• Comfort with a range of photography settings including candids, portraits, and merchandising
• Experience with script writing, interviewing, storytelling and sound editing
• Expertise in Adobe Creative Suite and photo/video editing software
• Experience with Photo/Video content management, workflows, photo tagging and organization
• Experience with social media marketing and content creation
• Interest for and comfort with content creation and marketing
• A commitment to the core values of The Island School including education, marine conservation, and sustainable design
• A collaborative spirit and interest in growing within the Communications and Marketing field
• Flexibility and a sense of adventure for remote island living
