ActionAid is a global justice federation working to achieve social justice, gender equality and poverty eradication**.** ActionAid works to strengthen the capacity and active agency of people living in poverty and exclusion, especially women, to assert their rights. We work directly with communities, with people’s organizations, women’s movements, groups and networks, social movements, and other allies to overcome the structural causes and consequences of poverty and injustice. Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the position of Country Director tenable at its office in Dakar, Senegal.

The Role:

The Country Director reports to the Head of Country Engagements and Transformation, Africa.  The role is for a leader who is strategic, influential with the passion for making a difference. The Country Director represents ActionAid International Federation in Senegal and leads the development and the implementation of Country Strategy of ActionAid, Senegal.  The Country Director will focus on delivering high standards of ActionAid’s operations in Senegal and ensuring resources are in place to achieve performance targets.

Who we're looking for**:**

The ideal candidate should have at least a master’s degree or its equivalent either in social sciences, development studies, management, economics or any other related area.

  • At least 5 - 10 years in the top management position of a development organisation with proven initiatives, flexibility, and enthusiasm in managing complex activities in a changing environment.
  • Demonstrated senior management expertise, including proven ability to lead and develop the capacities of multi-disciplinary professional team undertaking comprehensive poverty reduction and social justice strategy including Climate and Economic Justice.
  • Demonstrated expertise in strategic and long-term planning and the ability to ensure that operational plans and activities meet targets and appropriately reflect longer term perspectives.
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills, with Government and Funding partners to realize the implementation of the country Strategic Plan.
  • Demonstrate the ability of Networking with Civil Society, Social Movements, and People Organizations to advance gender equality, poverty eradication and social justice.
  • Sound awareness of the political, social, economic, and historic environment of Senegal and the continent with the ability to adapt to changing contexts that lead to long-term success of ActionAid in Senegal.
  • Ability to develop and manage the team with strong alignment of ActionAid’s feminist values and principles.
  • Sound and up to date knowledge of development concepts with human rights-based approach, methodologies and techniques including demonstrated expertise in at least one specialist development field.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, crisis management, conflict management and risk management skills.
  • The capacity to inspire others to give of their best to achieve a desired result, whilst maintaining effective relationships with individuals and teams as a whole and allocating resources
  • Fund raising skills with the knowledge of donor’s landscape in West Africa in general and Senegal in particular.
