Salary Level: US: Starting salary for this role will be $76,000 to $84,000 to commensurate on experience, based on local benchmark for candidates outside of the United States.

The Department
The Corporate Accounting Department performs a vital function for Mercy Corps globally, interacting with all other departmental functions of the Agency in order to provide meaningful financial information to employees, management, donors, and regulators. Corporate Accounting works closely with the International Finance Department to provide monthly consolidation of over 40 countries and several subsidiaries’ financial information. Corporate Accounting generates Mercy Corps' and Affiliates audited financial statements, debt compliance reports and other miscellaneous external financial reports.
The Position
The Corporate Accounting Manager will support the optimization of the accounting function at Mercy Corps Global Headquarters. The role is responsible for daily operations of the accounting team and the monthly close process for our consolidated accounts.
Essential Responsibilities
Manage four-person, remote accounting team
Manage the day-to-day accounting transactions (including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Fixed Assets, and Payroll transactions and data) with a focus on process improvement, internal controls, and customer service
Manage data transfers between the Resource Development (fundraising), Payroll, Timekeeping, and International Finance Departments.
Manage the monthly close process, maintain close calendars and approve monthly journal entries as required, working in partnership with International Finance, Resource Development, IT, Payroll, and Treasury.
Review monthly account reconciliations to ensure accuracy and resolution of outstanding items.
Review HQ related interagency transactions for completeness, compliance and accuracy.
Support finance teams as needed and provide input into the testing and design of new processes and systems relating to accounting operations.
Manage the documentation of the accounting processes to ensure they are up to date.
Provide support and coordination for external financial and regulatory audits and related compliance as required.
Backstop accounting team members as necessary.
Provide accounting support to Mercy Corps stakeholders.

A successful Accounting Manager will be a team player and employ effective management skills, manage priorities, and work with a wide variety of individuals including international staff. Additionally, the Accounting Manager will have strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and be able to communicate financial information in a succinct, organized manner.

Living Conditions / Environmental Conditions
The position is based in Portland, OR (or remote). Availability in Pacific time zone is required. There is no relocation allowance available for this position.
Mercy Corps team members represent the agency both during and outside work hours when deployed in a field posting or on a visit/short term assignment to a field posting.
