Terms of Reference for Leadership and Management Training

  1. About the Program:

WRI Africa -- WRI has been working in Africa for more than 30 years, supporting local partners and Africa governments to advance forest protection, landscape restoration and sustainable cities. In recent years, we appointed our first vice president for Africa, established a regional hub in Addis Ababa, and created a region-wide strategy.  Our vision for Africa is an inclusive transformation so Africa’s people and landscapes flourish. WRI Africa generates actionable knowledge across three strategic pillars: vital landscapes, thriving and resilient cities, and institutional and economic transformation.

  1. Rationale and Objectives of the Assignment

WRI Africa is seeking an experienced and dynamic consultant to conduct Leadership and Management Training for its ET and senior managers to support them to play their role in the region.

  1. Tasks and Scope of the Assignment

The tasks and scope of the consultancy will be to prepare and conduct a soft skills training under Leadership and Management based on gaps analysis which is to be conducted by the consultant. Post assessment, the consultant is expected to offer a concept that would detail the objectives, areas to be addressed as well as approach and methodology to be used.

  1. Deliverables
  • Training materials including PowerPoint Presentation, handouts, pre/post-tests, feedback/evaluation forms, etc. as well as a list of the training materials’ sources.
  • 1-days of training on Leadership and Governance.
  • A high quality and comprehensive training report that includes the aggregated findings of the pre/post tests and feedback/evaluation forms.
  1. Minimum Requirements and Competences
  • Demonstratable prior experience in conducting trainings on Leadership and management in the not-for-profit sector.
  • At least eight years’ experience in Leadership and Governance.
  • Advanced University degree in business, economics, non-profit management, international development, or related field.
  • Excellent leadership, organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills including in presentations and report writing.
  • Excellent spoken and written English.
  • Good judgement, pays attention to nuance and detail, takes initiative, high sense of responsibility, tact and discretion, with sensitivity to different cultures.
  1. Supervision

The trainer will be expected to be self-motivated and able to work independently. Supervision and support will be provided by WRI Africa.

  1. Payment Terms

Payments will be made in the following instalments:

  • The first installment is 25% upon the signing of contract.
  • The second installment is 50% upon the delivery of the training.
  • The third instalment is 25% upon the submission and satisfaction of:

– Training materials and sources.

– A high quality and comprehensive training report.

  1. Timeline

The training will be a one-day training to be held on September 25th, 2023, in Nairobi, Kenya

  1. Submission of Proposals

Interested candidates who fully meet the above criteria are invited to send their applications along with the following:

  • Cover letter (indicating interest and past experiences from similar projects)
  • An updated Company profile and /or Curriculum Vitae (with references)
  • A financial proposal that indicates the all-inclusive fixed total contract price (training cost should be an hourly rate), supported by a breakdown of costs for each task or element in the ToR.
