Program Overview

WRI’s air quality program is a global initiative that seeks to identify, build awareness of, and eliminate the root causes of air pollution that damages climate, human, and ecosystem health.  The program has three main areas of work: (i) engagement with city stakeholders to use participatory science to diagnose and develop targeted, cost-effective clean air solutions to protect human health and climate, (ii) working with the science community to convert innovative methods into tools and products that communities and policymakers can use to manage their impact on the atmosphere better, and (iii) working with national governments and business networks to design and implement broader regional-to-global air quality governance. It is a part of the WRI Ross Center on Sustainable Cities, with additional oversight from the Data Lab and engagement with Climate, Governance, Energy, and other programs at WRI. The team is global, with senior experts distributed across WRI’s network of international offices

WRI Indonesia's air quality program is growing along with the new USAID-funded program called “Clean Air Catalyst”, which will be implemented by a global consortium that WRI is leading with EDF and other partners.  The consortium includes six additional partners: Clean Air Toolbox for Cities (Columbia University), Climate and Clean Air Coalition, Internews Network, MAP-AQ, OpenAQ, and Vital Strategies. The program will work in three pilot regions with WRI international offices and local partners to test and refine a three-part data-to-action methodology for improving air quality and delivering climate co-benefits. Job Highlights

The Gender, Equity, and Social Inclusion Research Analyst will be based in Jakarta, Indonesia to support gender research pertaining to air quality within CAC Jakarta. He/she will proactively collaborate with the program team on related work. The ideal candidate will have exceptional communication skills, sharp analytical thinking, and be able to demonstrate their ability to effectively engage with various national, sub-national, and international stakeholders.

Job Responsibilities

• Assist in monitoring and tracking gender indicators and monitoring evaluation
• Identify potential clean air stakeholders/champions, which can be individuals, researchers, or NGOs at the grassroots level, with concerns on gender, social equity, and health intersection issues to be involved in future activities such as clean air mentorship and clean air catalysts champion.
• Assist in developing and implementing strategic engagement strategies to increase awareness and improve stakeholders’ participation in Clean Air Catalyst Initiative.
• Assist in preparing and implementing women in clean air science mentorship program
• Assist in developing gender and social equity methods for clean air catalyst
• Co-develop GESI report for clean air as necessary
• Engage with third-party vendors and consultants

Qualifications

• The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s or master’s degree in sociology, gender, anthropology, international relations, or other relevant fields;
• Professional experience of min. 2 years in social research;
• International experience or prior work in a global organization preferred;
• Experience in working with reporters or members of the media (and established media contacts) preferred;
• Interest and experience in forestry, energy, or other natural resources-related issues in Indonesia preferred;
• Experience and proven ability to communicate effectively with Indonesian government officials;
• Articulate, versatile, highly skilled writer with professional writing experience (professional clips or writing samples preferred);
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced office environment, both independently and as part of a global team;
• Excellent interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to encourage collaboration with other programs, international offices, and partners;
• Adaptable to rapidly changing priorities and able to manage multiple deadlines and deliver high-quality work products;
• Fluency in both Bahasa Indonesia and English, with a strong emphasis on written and spoken communications (additional language skills are welcome);
• Legally able to work in Indonesia.

Deliverables

Monthly consolidated report on delivery, achievement, and lessons learned.

Duration

1 October 2022 – 31 March 2023

Terms of Payment

Daily-rate-based consultant with a maximum of 18 (eighteen) working days per month

Contract Arrangement

Individual consultancy contract (Part-time, limited-term)
