CONSTRUCTION MANAGER

Position Purpose

A versatile position within a dynamic nonprofit that provides community-inspired, volunteer-powered disaster relief. The position is full-time and is responsible for overseeing and implementing the scopes of work in the recovery phase, managing construction subcontractors.

Essential Functions

  • Develop and monitor scopes of work and project queue, budget, timeline, and quality control.

  • Track these accurately, updating the necessary tracking systems. e.g. Salesforce, MS Project, Ignatius and SharePoint

  • Establish assessment criteria and perform assessments to establish scopes of work and Material estimates.

  • Call homeowners to walk through our Homeowner Prioritization Process.

  • Schedule work dates with homeowners leading up to work on sites, and conduct follow up calls to capture feedback and satisfaction level of work completed.

  • Responsible for hiring and managing subcontractors, and ensuring their work is both completed and completed well.

  • Ensure compliance with legal, donor, and safety requirements for projects.

  • Maintain accurate tracking systems of worksite progress/completion and materials.

  • Liaise with internal and external partners to ensure the successful completion of projects.

  • Evaluate progress and prepare detailed reports.

  • Financial Responsibilities include the operating budget for the associated department.

  • Perform other duties as required.

  • We have decided to relax the requirement for Covid-19 vaccination for on program staff. While we still strongly recommend Covid-19 vaccination, along with other standard and travel immunizations as recommended by the CDC and WHO, Covid-19 vacation will no longer be required.

Position Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field.  Architect or civil engineer degree preferred.
  • Related Experience: Previous All Hands and Hearts experience preferred but not required.  Previous experience in a disaster response setting is preferred but not required.  Must have project management experience, as well as supervisory experience.  Must have technical experience in construction management and experience managing subcontractors.
  • Special Competencies/Certifications Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. Good written and oral communication skills and confident working with Google Workspace, particularly Google Docs and Google Sheets; and Microsoft Office.  Ability to navigate new software platforms such as Salesforce, Ignatius and SharePoint (will train the right applicant). Applicants need to be well organized and have a flexible approach to managing multiple tasks and prioritizing them appropriately. The individual is able to manage a large workload and perform in a fast-paced environment.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands

  • Constantly works in outdoor adverse weather conditions.
  • Frequently moves items weighing up to 40 lbs. on work site or on base.
  • Frequently operates construction equipment (table saws, impact drivers, drills, and more)
  • Frequently operates computer.
  • Frequently ascends/descends ladders and scaffolding.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position.

  • Compensation Typical starting salary is $16.70/hour.
