Conservation Officer, Oceans Conservation

🇭🇰 Kwai Chung, HK 📝 FULL-TIME 🎯 ENTRY LEVEL

WWF-HK is looking for a Conservation Officer, Oceans Conservation who is dedicated to nature conservation and marine protection to join our Oceans Conservation Team to work on a project on oceans health monitoring and marine litter through a community-based and citizen science approach.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and deliver various projects focusing on oceans health monitoring, marine litter, and plastic reduction by implementing and enhancing the proposed project activities, monitoring and reporting of project progress to internal and external partners via meetings and written inputs;
  • Coordinate and deliver various functions for the projects such as outdoor trainings, workshops, seminars, and meetings, etc. in order to facilitate the smooth delivery of project;
  • Develop citizen science methodologies, scope, and strategies for various surveys;
  • Actively engage with project stakeholders and partners, including diving communities, recycling and upcycling companies, corporates, schools and universities;
  • Facilitate regional cooperation on tackling oceans health monitoring and marine litter, include ghost nets problems through experience sharing and incubating innovative solutions with project stakeholders and partners;
  • Cross-border collaboration is essential for some of the conservation work, thus occasional work in mainland China is needed.
  • Assist on other oceans conservation related project.

Required Functional Skills

  • Degree in Ecology, Environmental Science or any discipline relating to conservation;
  • Minimum 2 years relevant working experience, preferably in nature and marine conservation or environmental management; Candidate with less experience may be considered as Senior Conservation Officer, Oceans Conservation
  • Skillful in translating complicated scientific arguments into simple messages;
  • Strong self-motivation, excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Knowledge of research methods relevant to the work programs is desirable
  • Experience in fieldwork, particularly in marine environment
  • Experience in project management is an advantage
  • Good command of both written and spoken English and Chinese
  • Holder of Advanced Open Water Diver license is a definite advantage
  • Proficient in computer skills, including MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint

  • Outgoing and sociable, with good interpersonal and communication skills for relationship building with stakeholders.
  • Positive thinking, with a ‘can-do’ attitude and with the ability to multi-task and work under pressure.
  • A team player with good organizing, communication, and interpersonal skills. Accepts personal and team’s responsibility, and shows civility and respect to colleagues.
