Hong Kong is looking for the Conservation Officer, reporting to Manager, Wetlands Research, who will implement wetland monitoring and research projects in Mai Po Nature Reserve and wetlands in Hong Kong.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Implement monitoring and research programme at Mai Po Nature Reserve (MPNR) in accordance with Mai Po Management Plan. This includes conducting fieldworks, overseeing data collection and data input, performing data analysis and drafting report/ manuscript.
- Engage in the implementation of wetland-related research projects and conservation initiatives in Deep Bay and other sites in Hong Kong. Provide support in planning with other teams, communicating with external parties and fieldworks.
- Communicate the results from monitoring and research programme and the work of MPNR to both internal and external parties. This includes regular liaison with the habitat management team to ensure that results from monitoring and research projects inform the management of the site, and externally may include preparation for committee meeting and responding to media.
- Liaise with researchers at MPNR, including giving practical advice on proposed methodologies or study sites, liaising with AFCD and providing practical assistance if needed.
- Responsible for equipment maintenance and library management at MPNR.
- Support the organisation of training course and sharing in Mai Po Nature Reserve, which include preparing training materials, giving presentations and leading field visits.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Degree holder in Ecology, Environmental Science, Environmental Management or any discipline related to conservation.
- Relevant working experience in ecological research, with knowledge in field surveys and local species identification, particularly waterbirds.
- Proficient in computer skills, including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, GIS and R.
- Required to conduct and lead outdoor activities and willing to work in adverse weather conditions. Working at night during weekends and holidays will be required as per the working schedule.
- Fluent in English and Chinese.
- Self-motivated and able to make plans well in advance.
- Team player with good organising, communication and interpersonal skills. Able to accept personal and team’s responsibility, and show civility and respect to colleagues.
Candidate with more experiences will be considered for the role of Senior Conservation Officer.
