ConnCAN Community Relations Coordinator
Location: Remote, based in Connecticut
Founded in 2005, ConnCAN has been instrumental in creating the political conditions and public will for common-sense education policy changes to be implemented across the state of Connecticut. Through this work, ConnCAN has emerged as a leading voice for education reform, built a base of thousands of supporters across the state, and secured dozens of policy wins including the adoption of rigorous education standards, more flexibility to recruit great new teachers, and a 50 percent increase in the number of students enrolled in public charter schools. ConnCAN is part of 50CAN: The 50-State Campaign for Achievement Now, a nonprofit organization that works at the local level to advocate for a high-quality education for all kids, regardless of their address. 50CAN helps develop local education leaders by providing them with the research, tools, and ideas needed to create learning environments that best meet every child’s needs. It operates campaigns in 11 states, supports affiliates in three additional states, has a national headquarters in Washington, DC, and is led by CEO and Founder Marc Porter Magee.
Position Overview
The Community Relations Coordinator is an integral part of the ConnCAN team. This position will create, coordinate and execute initiatives and community engagement projects, oversee public relations and assist the ConnCAN leadership by coordinating communications for the organization. The ideal candidate is well-versed with various social media platforms and is able to proactively identify activities that increase, diversify and sustain the organization’s public image and brand. We are looking for someone who is passionate about creating the best education opportunities for all kids.
Key Responsibilities
Work with the Policy and Research Director to develop written content and story material for ConnCAN’s newsletter, blog, and other external communications avenues
Maintain content on the ConnCAN website to ensure it is up-to-date and easily accessible
Maintain and grow ConnCAN’s data and relationship-tracking database
Serve as the key point of contact for logistics in our sponsorships/partnerships with the community
Regularly attend meetings of ConnCAN’s partners and represents ConnCAN at external partner events
As a ConnCAN representative, proactively seek communications sharing and coordination with external partners and organizations, to jointly publicize their news and promote further collaboration
Support management with press releases and media advisory generation for key regional news related to ConnCAN’s policy priorities
Serve as a spokesperson and presence at school and community events
Develop and lead the creation of in-person events that will reach and mobilize parents
In partnership with the 50CAN communications team, support the creation of content for ConnCAN’s communications platforms
Assist the ConnCAN team with special projects, as needed
Availability to work occasional nights and weekends

This position is fully remote but applicants must reside in Connecticut, with a starting date as soon as possible. The salary range is determined based on experience and qualifications. This role will require some travel for full-staff events and other planning sessions.
