50CAN: The 50-State Campaign for Achievement Now is a nonprofit organization that works at the local level to advocate for a high-quality education for all kids, regardless of their address. We develop local education leaders by providing them with the research, tools, and ideas needed to create learning environments that best meet every child’s needs. 50CAN operates campaigns in Connecticut, Delaware, Colorado, Georgia, Hawaii, Louisiana, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Carolina, and Tennessee.
Position Overview
The Community Organizer Associate will work as an integral member of the GeorgiaCAN Outreach team. The position's responsibilities are to facilitate the base building (organizing, recruitment, and engagement), leadership development, and participation of parents and schools in the Atlanta charter school space.
This position emphasizes outreach and relationship building that results in member and core leader recruitment, specifically with charter schools. The Metro Atlanta-based position will report directly to the State Outreach Director.
Key Responsibilities:
Identify potential parent leaders through 1-1s, community referrals, grassroots base build efforts, and GACAN events
Develop and maintain relationships with key community stakeholders
Manage a system to track parent and community organizing efforts
Plan and coordinate organizing and advocacy opportunities including meetings, public events, and actions in partnership with local leadership teams
Support and guide parent leadership teams through issue organizing cycles aligned to GACAN's policy goals
Draft and disseminate regular communications to advocates and allies, and to maintain GACAN’s social media presence
Use GACAN’s online tools to build and roll out calls to action and advocacy campaigns
Organize logistics for electoral advocacy, including advocate phone banking and candidate endorsement meetings
Represent GACAN at local events and gatherings, as assigned by the GeorgiaCAN State Outreach Director

This position is fully remote but applicants must reside in Georgia, with a starting date as soon as possible. The salary range is determined based on experience and qualifications. This role will require some travel for full-staff events and other planning sessions.
