Background

This role offers a valuable opportunity to gain experience within an international non-profit organization by helping improve the user experience of the TWB Learning Center, a platform for community members to gain experience in humanitarian translation, complete courses and learn in-demand language industry skills.

Objectives

The main objectives of this internship are to:

  • Assess the current user experience of the TWB Learning Center.
  • Design and implement one to two pilot engagement strategies and improvements.
  • Provide a final report with clear recommendations for increasing user enrollment, course completion, and overall satisfaction.

The role

We are seeking a motivated intern to lead a critical, community-facing initiative: optimizing the user experience and engagement of our Learning Center.

This internship provides hands-on experience in key areas within the humanitarian translation sector:

  • Community Development
  • Learning Design
  • Data-Driven Program Optimization

Responsibilities

You will be responsible for the following key tasks:

  • Audit the Learning Center platform's user experience (UX), focusing on navigation, accessibility, and mobile responsiveness.
  • Gather and analyze user feedback to identify pain points and opportunities for improvement.
  • Design and run 1-2 A/B tests or pilot programs for new engagement strategies, such as:
    • Implementing gamification elements (e.g., badges, points, progress visualization).
    • Optimizing communication cadence (e.g., reminders, nudges, check-ins).
    • Testing cohort-based vs. self-paced learning models.
    • Developing peer learning and accountability mechanisms.
    • Exploring microlearning vs. comprehensive course structures.
  • Define clear success metrics and data collection methods for each test.
  • Analyze collected data to determine what drives enrollment, participation, and completion.
  • Develop recommendations for scaling successful methodologies across the platform.
  • Review and optimize workflows for course enrollment, tracking, and completion.
  • Suggest improvements to the course management dashboard and student communications.

These roles and responsibilities are approximate and may change over time.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a university degree program (a degree in education management, translation, communication, or a related field is preferred).
  • Previous experience in translation, interpreting, or learning initiatives (internships and volunteering are considered valid experience) is desirable.
  • Working knowledge of Learning Management Systems (LMS) and online course platforms.
  • Technical Proficiency: Proficiency with Google Workspace (Sheets, Docs, etc.) and similar collaborative tools.
  • Experience working with non-profit or humanitarian organizations.
