Position Summary

Join the global fight for a healthy climate by making a difference in local communities. Community Forestry Corps Members serve at a nonprofit or public agency with a mission to help communities mitigate and prepare for climate change with a focus on preserving and increasing tree canopy.

Service with Community Forestry Corps includes many projects that support our communities and environment. From tree planting to outreach and education, Community Forestry Corps members are helping build a healthy, resilient, and environmentally just future for all.

We are currently recruiting for the 2022-23 program year with opportunities beginning in August, October and January. Your commitment to Community Forestry Corps will be 40 or 25 hours per week.

This is an AmeriCorps member position. You will join an amazing group of members, determined to help our communities

What to Expect

• Work with partners on planting programs and tree inventories.
• Help design, construct and manage nursery gravel beds.
• Play an integral role in outreach and education programs by sharing your experience.
• Develop Emerald Ash Borer management plans.
• Develop your skills in a variety of fields including construction management, conservation, landscape design and more.

Perks Package

Community Forestry Members receive a perks package at 40 hours a week that includes:

• A stipend of $1,100 paid every 2 weeks
  • $25,300 total for 1,700 hours of service starting in August 2022
  • $20,900 total for 1,350 hours of service starting in October 2022
  • $15,400 total for 1,000 hours of service starting in January 2023
• Up to $6,495 for tuition or student loans*
• Federal student loan forbearance and interest repayment
• Individual health insurance — Monthly premium 100% covered
• Child care assistance — Based on family size and income

*The Segal AmeriCorps Education Award can be used to pay tuition or repay qualified student loans. Individuals 55+ may gift their award to their child, grandchild, foster child or step-child.

What it Takes

Our members come from all walks of life. The most important qualification is a passion to take action for your community – and meet the following minimum qualifications. By the time they begin their service, our members ar

• Dependable and have a history of good attendance
• Able to understand and follow instructions
• Set a pace and maintain a service schedule of 40 or 25 hours per week
• Competent with basic computer skills (like email and navigating online)
• Fluent in English for speaking, reading, and writing
• 18 years of age or older with a high school diploma or equivalent
• A citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident of the United States*
• Able to successfully complete a background check

*Applicants who have received deferred action for childhood arrivals (DACA) through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security are not eligible to serve as AmeriCorps members at this time.

Climate Impact Corps is powered by passionate AmeriCorps members who serve in one of two initiatives: Community Forestry Corps or Home Energy Corps. The program was launched in 2020, to address urgent needs in Minnesota and is administered by Ampact.
