Department Description

The Community Engagement Team (CE) implements Asylum Access Thailand’s (AAT)’s empowerment and capacity building programs through various projects; Psychological First Aid (PFA), Refugee Leadership, and Livelihood Projects and is working closely with refugee communities and local businesses.

Position Description

The Community Engagement Officer (Refugee Leadership) implements a refugee leadership program with empowered refugee community volunteers to build advocacy knowledge and skills, aiming at advocacy with external stakeholders, such as, public audience, students, CSOs, and other external stakeholders.

Position Responsibilities:

• Under close supervision of Community Engagement Coordinator, develop refugee engagement programs and coordinate the engagement with refugee communities to build advocacy knowledge and skills with the aim at empowering the ability of self advocacy on behalf of  refugee communities.
• Cultivate relationships across diverse communities with their community volunteers and Refugee-led Network (RLN) to build on their existing capacities.
• Facilitate regular community meetings through any means of communication to foster relationship building and collaboration with RLN members and relevant stakeholders on a regular basis.
• Serve as a focal point for refugee community consultation between AAT CE team and refugee communities to ensure their needs and concerns are addressed and brought back to improve AAT programs.
• Be part of community engagement activities, including, recruitment and conducting an orientation for RLN members.
• Support in establishing urban refugee networks across different communities into a long-lasting network.

Management:

• Manage and ensure correct record of RLN members’ working.
• Coordinate and organize the meeting to touch base with RLN members to ensure project implementation goes smoothly.
• Support RLN members to conduct training and provide technical advice on how to facilitate the training.
• Supervise all RLN members and  training curriculums  as well as maintaining a group of refugee advocates network on a monthly basis.

Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E):

• Design, collect, and analyse M&E data i.e. pre and post test, and conducting FGDs
• Conduct refugee community consultation with all refugee communities and bring our designed projects/programs for their feedback to ensure that activities are responded to their needs.
• Contribute to the preparation of donor reports in relation to the part of community engagement on a quarterly basis.

Capacity Building:

• Conduct orientation of new community volunteers and RLN members
• Develop new training materials and review existing training materials for potential/new RLN members.
• Coordinate and deliver training sessions and pairing experienced community volunteers with new/potential RLN members.
• Coordinate and deliver regular group training sessions for RLN members  to help them develop their interpreting and professional skills i.e. how to be a good facilitator.

Other Administrative Duties:

• Support in organizing all RLN members documents and ensure all to understand, acknowledge, and understand AAT core values and code of conduct, e.g. Child Safeguarding Policy, Confidentiality Agreement, and Code of Conduct.
• Perform any other tasks as required by a supervisor

Reports to: Community Engagement Coordinator

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; post-secondary education in a related field

• At least 1 year of relevant work experience in project management, community engagement, or related fields, preferably with a focus on refugee or marginalized communities,

• Strong organizational, project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously,

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage with community volunteers of diverse backgrounds.

• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently under minimal supervision,

• Proficiency in written and spoken English.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Google Suite (Docs, Sheets).

Salary and Benefits

Position comes with a competitive nonprofit salary, and a robust benefits package. The range of salary is between 33,000THB- 35,000THB.

Hours and Location of Work

The Community Engagement Officer (Refugee Leadership) is a full-time position based in our office in Bangkok, Thailand. Candidates should be aware that some flexibility regarding working hours is required in order to facilitate project activities, in particular on weekends and some evenings.
