Community Outreach Internship
The goal of The Island School’s Community Engagement programs is to foster meaningful relationships through education, conservation and sustainability to advocate living well in a place. We collaborate with local schools, youth, families, community leaders, government organizations, and local partners to design and implement community outreach programs that have been requested and match our expertise.
We are offering highly motivated individuals the opportunity to develop their community engagement and education skills working within a cross-cultural environment. This is an excellent role for someone who wants to get valuable experience working in education and youth development within a dynamic team.
Internship Responsibilities
Foster a learning environment that promotes our core values of kindness, honesty, respect, perseverance, self-control and responsibility
Support the running of external programs for primary school aged children, including Open Learning Center (OLC), After School Homework Club, math and literacy support, Community Farm, Swim Club and Plastic Club
Assist with the Young Leadership Program activities
Assist with outdoor environmental education programs for local primary school, middle school and high school students at the Cape Eleuthera Institute and Center for Sustainable Development
Assist with planning educational experiences, enforcing rules and monitoring the well being of students and their chaperones/instructors
Supporting logistics, orientating participants to their surroundings, basic marine ecology and environmental stewardship, beach clean-ups and snorkeling
Participate and represent the organisation at community events.
You will be living in an isolated tight knit community, taking care of one another is core to our mission
