Job Description:
The Communications Specialist will support the Communications department at Flashfood as we build a high-volume, high-quality external communications strategy that moves the brand and the mission forward, building awareness, share-of-voice and credibility with press, our partners, our industry and our broader Flashfood community.
This is an exciting opportunity at a high-growth company building our voice at the intersection of food waste and food access. The small-but-nimble Communications team has an incredible story to tell, with countless opportunities across the problems we solve, the customers who shop with us, and the retail partners that execute us on the ground.

Responsibilities:
- Support the Head of Communications & Public Affairs in developing and executing communication plans for partners, announcements and other external company initiatives.
- Maintain up-to-date communications materials like national, trade and local media lists, company messaging banks, up-to-date press kit and calendars for relevant awards and events.
- Champion our growing local media relations activities by building a roster of local press targets, supporting new partner launches, maintaining a steady presence in local broadcast and championing partner stories at every opportunity.
- Support cross-departmental projects like the annual impact report and the annual company meeting.
- Contribute to and maintain the short- and long-term communications calendar planning by developing story concepts and sourcing content from Flashfood customers and partners.
- Support on the strategy and execution for high-value corporate events, including speaking opportunities, brand activations and b2b activations.
- Support Flashfood’s impact strategy and communications to reduce our impact on the world and continue to communicate progress towards our mission with our community of stakeholders.
- Work with the PR teams at our retail partners and our industry partners to craft narratives that drive impactful, positive coverage.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of 2+ years of experience either in-house or at a PR agency.
- Preferred: specific experience in food, grocery and/or tech industries.
- A hands-on mentality, meticulous attention to detail, and an ability to clearly and effectively communicate the company’s mission and impact.
- An ability to speak to and engage with journalists confidently, while adhering to company messaging and talking points.
- A creative streak, with the ability to generate story ideas from company sales trends, shopper stories or other cultural happenings relevant to Flashfood.
- A hunger to land stories about Flashfood and the hustle to make it happen.
- Experience writing concise and compelling content on deadline (award submissions, speaking submissions, pitches, emails, press releases, etc.).
- Excellent project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple time-sensitive projects in a fast-paced environment;
- An ability to travel as needed to support company events or launch press activities.
- Undergraduate degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, or other relevant discipline (equivalent work experience will be considered).
