COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER, LONDON

The Transition Plan Taskforce (TPT) is looking for a communications manager to support our work over the coming months. This an exciting opportunity to shape and deliver the communications strategy of an influential initiative working at the forefront of sustainable finance. This post based in E3G’s London office.

Background

E3G is an independent climate change think tank with a global outlook. We are world leading strategists on the political economy of climate change, dedicated to achieving a safe climate for all. We work on the frontier of the climate landscape tackling the barriers and advancing the solutions to a safe climate. Our goal is to translate climate politics, economics and policies into action.

The TPT was launched by HM Treasury in April 2022 to develop a gold standard for private sector climate transition plans. More information on the TPT can be found at www.transitiontaskforce.net. E3G co-hosts the Secretariat to the TPT alongside the UK Centre for Greening Finance and Investment (CGFI).

The Communications Manager role within the TPT Secretariat team will develop and deliver the TPT’s communications, marketing and events strategy to achieve desired stakeholder impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the TPT Team Lead in developing and implementing a strategy to effectively communicate key TPT milestones including (i) the transfer of ownership of TPT materials to the IFRS Foundation, (ii) the end of the TPT’s mandate and forward work on private sector transition plans. This includes planning, promoting and delivering events both in the UK and at key international moments (e.g. COP29).
  • Manage the day-to-day development of our website and brand, working with an external communications agency.
  • Liaise with E3G Director of Communications to achieve alignment and added value between the TPT’s and E3G’s communication, including coordinating on messages where appropriate.
  • Produce high-quality content, including press releases, social media updates and multimedia materials. Materials will be developed either directly (e.g.via platforms such as Wordpress and Mailchimp, and software such as Canva and the Microsoft Office), or working with our communications agency or other external support.
  • Design a media outreach strategy to grow strong relationships with media contacts and secure media coverage, working in partnership with E3G’s media leads.
  • Manage TPT Social media channels (i.e. developing, drafting and posting content to maintain a drumbeat of communications and stakeholder engagement to grow awareness and the community of interest).
  • Track, analyse and report on the effectiveness of communication efforts and successful engagement activities with target stakeholder audiences.

Person Description

You will be able to manage a number of discrete projects simultaneously and balance competing deadlines. You are an intellectually curious and highly organised self-starter with a strong interest in (and preferably some prior experience of) the opportunities and challenges around climate change. You are a creative thinker, able to learn fast and to work flexibly with a range of people. You are prepared to go the extra mile to deliver high quality outputs to challenging deadlines. You are confident engaging with large numbers of stakeholders and ensuring high quality outcomes.
Experience and Skills

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate, with examples:

  • the ability to work in a small team and in a fast-paced environment, and to assimilate new and potentially complex or technical information in order to inform the delivery of clear, understandable messages that have a persuasive narrative style and are tailored for different audiences.
  • relevant professional experience and responsibilities in strategic communication, ideally in the context of the climate transition, with a track record of proactive management of communications activity for an organization or initiative;
  • experience of organizing and promoting events, and of building event partnerships including marketing speakers for third party events;
  • experience of managing social media and web content;
  • experience of proactive and reactive communication with a wide range of stakeholders including journalists and communications professionals;
  • experience of managing the work of third party providers such as website providers, designers, copywriters and PR agencies;
  • the ability to plan and organise your own work in the context of a multi-functional team.
