The Institute for War & Peace Reporting (IWPR) is an international non-profit organisation founded in 1991, with charitable status in the US, UK and the Netherlands. We give voice to people at the frontlines of conflict, crisis and transition to help them drive change and build more stable, just and inclusive societies.

Drawing on three decades of experience in some of the world’s most challenging environments, we support media, civil society, democracy and governance, gender, and youth-focused projects in over 30 countries – promoting reliable information and responsible public debate and removing barriers to freedom of expression.

The Role:

IWPR is seeking a communications manager who will be responsible for the design, creation and execution of communication strategy, branding, social media campaigns, and the development of content pieces highlighting beneficiary work within IWPR's programs. This will include the production of impactful images, informative videos and persuasive articles that capture the essence of the programs and the success stories of the beneficiaries.

The communications manager will also be responsible for ensuring that all campaigns and content pieces conform to IWPR's editorial standards and align with the organisation's strategic objectives.

In this role you will:

• Implement the methodology and curricula for analysis and audience strategy workshops with an applied learning approach;
• Design and execute a communications strategy, including branding, for non-profit organization with diverse target audiences across the region;
• Design, implement and monitor social media campaigns to promote IWPR open calls and programs in general;
• Monitor and analyze metrics and incorporate insights into the communications plan;
• Design and implement campaigns to boost work by beneficiaries of various programs;
• Work proactively to maintain an active presence in social networks and other relevant spaces as needed;
• Develop a monthly newsletter to reach the audience via e-mail.

The successful candidate will possess:

• Minimum of 5 years experience in communications management, especially with non-profit organisations;
• Related degree in strategic communication, public relations, journalism or similar, or accreditation of proven experience in the field (at least 5 years);
• Excellent writing skills and content creation pieces (blogs, reports, etc.);
• Availability to respond quickly to unexpected communications needs;
• Extensive knowledge of the digital media environment in Latin America and the Caribbean;
• Fully bilingual (Spanish/English). Portuguese is a plus;
• Cultural sensitivity and demonstrated ability to work and adapt to diverse cultures;
• Professional ethics.

Other requirements:

• Willingness to use the IWPR work safety protocol.
